Job Summary The Equity and Title IX Investigator conducts fair and impartialinvestigations into allegations of protected class harassment anddiscrimination and sex-based harassment, including gender-baseddiscrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, intimate partnerand dating violence, and stalking for students and employees. Theinvestigator serves as a neutral and impartial investigator whoindependently plans, conducts, and documents investigationsconcerning complaints of sexual harassment, sexual assault,stalking, dating and domestic violence, and protected classdiscrimination and harassment involving students and employees.This role coordinates closely with the Director of Title IXCompliance and ADA 504 Coordinator and Director of Staff Equity,Inclusion and Belonging to ensure strategic alignment ofwork. This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefits eligible positionthrough June 2027. Supervision This position reports to the Associate Vice President for HumanResources and Chief Human Resources Officer and takes day to dayguidance from the Director of Title IX Compliance and ADA/504Coordinator and Director for Staff Equity, Inclusion andBelonging. Responsibilities Investigations Under the direction of the Director of Title IX Compliance andADA/504 Coordinator and Director for Staff Equity, Inclusion andBelonging: Receive complaints asserting violations by faculty, staff, students, and others of the College regarding violation of College’s policies including, but not limited to: Institutional Policy on Sex-Based Harassment Non-Discrimination Policy Institutional Policy on Disability Policy on Sexual Harassment Review complaints to assess potential violations of Collegepolicies prohibiting Harassment and Discrimination and SexualMisconduct and/or applicable federal and state laws andregulations. Assess content of complaint to determine the need forinvestigation versus other potential responses, resource referrals,or informal resolutions. Discuss with administrators, supervisors, and others inleadership, as appropriate, informal responses to complaintsthatmay not require investigation. Follow through on the investigation processes for conductinginterviews and reviewing documents, taking into account the issuesraised in the complaint, and which witnesses and other sources ofinformation may have information relevant to the legal and policyissues raised. Make appropriate judgments about which sources of informationto consult and what questions to ask. Communicate with complainants, respondents and/or othersregarding the plan and timeline for completion. Apply professional judgment and experience in questioningwitnesses and reviewing other information sources. Exercise flexibility and judgment to change investigation planas appropriate, depending on information gathered, new issuesraised. Manage time, often while conducting multiple investigationssimultaneously, to conduct comprehensive investigation withintimelines required by policy, law, and best practices. Communicate with witnesses, complainants, respondents, andothers with discretion, impartiality, professionalism, andconfidentiality appropriate to the context. Present investigative findings in written reports todecision-makers. Document findings and maintain evidence. Prepare reports that synthesize complex facts that are clearlywritten, succinct, and focused on the issues relevant to thecomplaint. Make findings of fact where appropriate and clearly analyzewhether or not the specific allegations have been substantiated bythe investigation. Maintain accurate records of complaints, assessments,investigations, outcomes, and communications. Assist in producing periodic reports of complaints andresolutions as needed upon request. Help connect complainants, respondents and witnesses, withCollege resources that may provide alternative or additionalsupport, interim and protective measures, guidance andassistance. Review the investigative process for consistency and makerecommendations for process enhancements as needed. Coordinate closely with the Director of Title IX Compliance andADA 504 Coordinator and Director of Staff Equity, Inclusion andBelonging to ensure strategic alignment of work. Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of related experience conductinginvestigations, or equivalent combination of degree andexperience. Extensive knowledge of relevant laws (Title IX, Title VI, TitleVII, ADA). Demonstrated ability to effectively work and interactrespectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment. Demonstrated sensitivity and respect for diverse, academic,socio-economic, ethnic, religious, cultural backgrounds, disabilityand sexual orientation of students, faculty and staff. Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines witha workload that can be unpredictable. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. The ability to handle sensitive information with tact,diplomacy and confidentiality. Ability to work with faculty, staff, and studentpopulations. Certification in conducting internal Title IX and/or civilrights investigations. Employment law and/or HR experience. Higher education experience, particularly in a student conduct,Title IX, or civil rights/equal opportunity role.
