This Graduate Assistant will gain experience and knowledge in Student Affairs and higher education, particularly in the following areas: event advising, planning, and execution; student organization management; and new student orientation. Under the direct supervision of an Associate Director and in collaboration with another Associate Director, the Graduate Assistant will support the operations and programming of Brother Mike's, Stonehill College's campus bar, including assisting with student staff supervision, facility oversight, and event coordination during operational hours. This role allows the Graduate Assistant to apply classroom learning through direct engagement with the Office of Student Engagement, colleagues in Student Affairs, and Stonehill students while contributing to campus programming and community-building initiatives. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Hours of Work
The Office is seeking a graduate student who can commit to 30 hours a week-this includes
time spent both in the office and at events. There is flexibility with scheduling, but most Thursdays from 8:00 pm-1:30 am should be available throughout the semester. Additional weekend and evening hours are required. Ideal candidates will commit to 10 months; the position may be renewed for an additional appointment based on job performance and mutual acceptance. - Contribute to the operation and logistics of Fall Welcome & Welcome Week.
- Co-coordinate with the Director in the selection process of the Orientation student Core
Team and Orientation Leaders. - Assist and take the lead in Spring Orientation Leader training.
- Begin development of the summer Orientation program, materials, and assessment.
- Serve as a Transfer Welcome Leader and assist in program planning initiatives.
- Available to operate Brother Mike's weekly on Thursday nights (8 p.m.-1:30 a.m.), and other Brother Mike After Darks Events (2-4 per semester).
- Oversee daily operations of Brother Mike's, including inventory management, equipment upkeep, maintaining operations logs, monitoring the environment, and ensuring compliance with state and local regulations.
- Manage financial operations, including cash and credit transactions, nightly profit/loss tracking, weekly financial reporting, budget management, and making deposits while maintaining accurate records.
- Coordinate programming and special events, collaborating with student organizations, faculty, and campus departments to host theme nights and enhance campus engagement.
- Support event logistics and promotion, including working with Campus Police and Conferences & Events, coordinating vendors or service providers, and overseeing marketing through advertising and social media.
- Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student Brother Mike's bartenders.
- Assist in supervising the student Event Interns, in collaboration with the Assistant Director.
- Assist with the coordination of the Spring Activities Fair.
- Serve as a resource for student organizations in planning events.
- Ensure that all campus and student events are in Guidebook.
- Develop and present 1-2 workshops per semester, focused on student organization support.
- Support in the coordination and implementation of Family Weekend.
- Provide appropriate event coverage for late-night programs, as needed.
- Attend staff meetings and other meetings, as assigned; work nights and weekends, as required.
- Support and attend large-scale events sponsored by the Office and the Student Government
Association. - Take part in trainings, retreats, and planning sessions, as needed.
- Serve as a leader in fostering a campus culture in which differences are embraced and work to advance the College's mission of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Partner with other Student Affairs Offices and seek out opportunities to work with others.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A Bachelor's Degree with experience or interest in campus/student event management, leadership development, and student advisement is required. Must be currently enrolled in a Master's Program in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Education, Social Work, or related fields.
- Familiarity with event planning/programming.
- In addition, the successful candidate must be dependable and have excellent interpersonal communication (written, oral, and electronic) skills.
- Candidate must demonstrate integrity, initiative, openness, teamwork, and a positive attitude.
- Candidates should also be able to demonstrate a commitment to higher education, student development, and diversity/inclusion.
