Assistant Supervisor – Nassau County Assistant Supervisors serve as lead members of the direct care team, performing day‑to‑day functions similar to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). In addition to providing direct care, they handle administrative responsibilities such as training, scheduling, systems management, and, in some cases, direct supervision of other DSPs. Assistant Supervisors may work in a variety of settings including a person’s home, a family’s home, a YAI residence, a day habilitation center, or out in the community, depending on the supports needed. Responsibilities Lead and support the direct care team. Provide day‑to‑day care activities for clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Train and coach new and existing DSPs. Solve problems and manage client situations. Maintain records and manage systems related to client care. Schedule shifts and coordinate coverage. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED (some college preferred). Prior DSP experience strongly preferred, but not mandatory. Ability to lead by example and act as a role model. Strong interpersonal and problem‑solving skills. Openness to feedback and willingness to apply it. Flexibility in availability, primarily evenings with at least one full day on weekends.
