Social Work Services Position

This job announcement may close at any time with little or no notice. Applicants are advised to apply promptly. Pay Schedule I, Grade 32. Regular Schedule: 35 hours per week. Several vacancies exist in the Department of Health and Human Services. A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below. Examples of Duties

Job Purpose: Under general supervision, provides professional social work services to adults who are 18 and older and County residents. The primary job duties include conducting telephone interviews and assessing requests for Adult Protective Services, Social Service to Adults, Crisis Intervention and/or In Home Aid to generate appropriate referrals for the Adult Services Division.

  • Conducts screening and intake for the Respite Program which would include helping families get registered for the services addressing "occasional" supportive services such as linkages to other state and county resources while receiving Respite Services.
  • Investigates, evaluates, and monitors individual cases.
  • Assists in rendering diagnosis and developing individual treatment/service plans designed to prevent or alleviate personal or environmental problems of clients in a social services, health, or mental health program.
  • Determines suitability of individuals for special programs.
  • Provides crisis intervention and individual or group counseling to clients and their families.
  • Develops and/or participates in public awareness and education programs.
  • Consults with other health or social work professionals concerning issues affecting recovery, welfare, and rehabilitation of clients.
  • Acts as a liaison between health, education, welfare, and other community agencies to establish an integrated and coordinated program.
  • Performs case management, prepares case histories, court documents and other reports, memos, and correspondence.
  • Maintains accurate records of client activities.
  • Participates in meetings.

Examples of Other Duties: Makes home visits and provides transportation for patients/clients. Assists sick or injured senior adults until medical personnel arrive at the scene. Attends training and seminars. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: Possession of a master's degree in social work from a college or university approved by the Council of Social Work Education; Plus Two years' experience rendering professional social work services. Education beyond a master's degree from an accredited college or university in the field of social work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of one year for the required experience.

  • Experience working with vulnerable adults;
  • Must have knowledge of mental health and substance use disorder treatment and resources;
  • Must be detail oriented and able to work independently and manage a variety of tasks;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple groups and organizations in a collaborative manner;
  • LCSW-C is preferred

Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a license, issued by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners, as a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) is required at the time of application. Some positions require possession of a LCSW-Clinical license issued by the Maryland Board of Social Workers at the time of application. Possession of a valid license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license may be required for some positions at the time of appointment.

Proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education: Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications, and education beyond high school to meet the required qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcript must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable. Conditions of Employment

Some positions may require satisfactory completion of County sponsored CPR and First Aid training. Employees must maintain licenses and certifications throughout the course of their employment. Some positions in this classification may be required to respond to emergency situations and work overtime with little or no notice. Some positions require employees to complete an approved training program and must pass a competency test by the second training available after appointment to this classification.

Physical and Environmental Conditions: The work of this classification is essentially sedentary but may include occasional walking, standing, and/or other limited physical activities. Some positions within this classification require traveling between work sites.

Medical Examination and Employment Background Investigation: Applicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening and employment investigation, including, but not limited to criminal background, education certification and fingerprinting checks.

Salary Annual Salary review Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance General Increases Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated. Longevity Increases In accordance with the specific pay schedule, a full-time merit or classified employee may receive a longevity increase, equivalent to one step, upon completion of a certain number of years of classified service with the County.

Employee Assistance Program Our Employee Assistance Program provides confidential and professional assessment and referral assistance for employees and eligible dependents in the household who are experiencing personal problems that may be affecting work performance, job satisfaction, or overall quality of life.

Health Insurance Health Insurance benefits elected become effective the first day of the month following the date of hire if the employee has completed online enrollment prior to that date. New employees must enroll within thirty (30) calendar days of hire. Plans offered include: Medical, Prescription, Dental and Vision insurance.

Flexible Spending Accounts Opportunity to set aside pre-tax dollars, through payroll deduction, for eligible unreimbursed medical care expenses and/or dependent care costs.

Life Insurance Employees may elect basic term life insurance for themselves equal to one time the employee's annual salary, rounded to the next higher $1,000. Employees contribute a portion of the premium through monthly payroll deductions. The County also offers an Additional/Employee paid Life Insurance plan with coverage up to $100,000.

Retirement Employees are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System (ERS), with very limited exceptions.
