Software Developer - Space Domain

ResponsibilitiesPeraton is seeking a Software Developer to support a customer in Colorado Springs, CO, supporting the Space Weather Analysis Forecasting Service (SWAFS) GovCloud solution. This role is suited for an experienced developer who brings strong hands-on coding skills and ideally some exposure to software architecture concepts. The ideal candidate is a solid, self-sufficient developer who can contribute meaningfully to complex systems, work within an Agile team, and grow into broader technical responsibilities over time. What you'll do:Contribute to the design and documentation of software architecture for the SWAFS GovCloud solution, including system components, data flows, and integration patternsTranslate high-level engineering and mission requirements into actionable architectural designs, interaction flows, and development artifactsCollaborate with Senior Architects, Chief Systems Engineers, and Product Owners to align technical designs with program objectivesSupport decomposition of architectural requirements into consumable development stories and sprint-level tasksParticipate in all phases of the software development lifecycle: definition, design, implementation, unit testing, and deploymentWrite and review application code primarily in Java; support and guide developers on coding standards and architectural patternsEstablish and promote design guidelines, best practices, and coding standards across the development teamEvaluate and recommend frameworks, tools, and technologies to meet system requirementsParticipate in peer code and design reviews; provide constructive technical feedbackSupport REST API design and data/service integration architecture feeding into SaaS applicationsContribute to CI/CD pipeline design and DevSecOps best practicesAssist in defining structured practices in source code management, build and release managementProduce clear and concise architectural documentation, decision records (ADRs), and technical specificationsSupport customer-facing technical presentations of architecture and system functionalityQualificationsRequired QualificationsAssociate's degree in a related field and 7+ years of relevant software development experience; OR Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of relevant software development experience; OR Master's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience. An additional four (4) years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degreeAt least 3 years of progressive software development experienceStrong knowledge of software design principles, development best practices, and applicable frameworksDemonstrated software development experience using JavaExperience with Spring and Spring Kafka, or comparable event-driven messaging technologiesExperience using GitLab for source control, collaboration, and/or CI/CDStrong hands-on experience developing and executing software test plans, procedures, and casesExperience supporting deployments to high-side or restricted-access environmentsExperience troubleshooting, monitoring, and supporting software in operational environmentsExperience documenting, tracking, and resolving software defects and bugsExperience supporting software demonstrations, technical reviews, or customer-facing eventsThis position requires the candidate possess a minimum of Top-Secret clearance with SCI eligibility. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations.
