Job Description The POCT/Phlebotomist is a clinically competent Perioperative Care Technician who works under the supervision of the RN to deliver skilled and effective direct and indirect perioperative care and all related functions. The role utilizes initiative, maintains steady productivity, assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment, and participates in continuous quality improvement activities. The incumbent provides phlebotomy, glucometer, and 12‑lead EKG for patients in Perioperative Services. Collaborate with the RN to address patient safety and legal issues. Verify physician orders prior to performing procedures and clarify any special procedures with the RN. Communicate patients' progress toward desired outcomes and diagnostic results to the RN as appropriate. Report patient data concisely and thoroughly. Collaborate with care team members to provide coordinated, safe, and compassionate care. Demonstrate use of AIDET and rounding techniques to achieve excellent patient satisfaction. Support and be aware of the daily schedule by expediting on‑time starts and efficient progression of patients through perioperative services. Document patient care activities and data accurately using appropriate documentation systems. Perform required clinical skills efficiently per protocol, including vital sign measurement, aseptic technique, non‑invasive specimen collection, and other specified tasks such as phlebotomy, glucometer testing, and 12‑lead EKG. Gather data necessary for planning patient care, including intake, output, and vital signs. Assist with admission, orientation of patients and families, discharge, and transportation of patients. Observe patients carefully for significant changes. Assist in direct patient care under RN supervision and follow written or oral assignments and direction. Maintain education records and participate in annual competencies. Identify strengths and weaknesses, learning needs, and goals, and develop plans to address them. Participate in continuing education activities and work with management to obtain necessary skills for up‑to‑date patient care. Provide a warm and open welcome to all patients, visitors, and staff. Assist with house‑wide and department‑wide quality improvement activities. Report to the unit within 5 minutes of official start time and follow the perioperative dress code. Maintain absences within NM guidelines. Qualifications Required High school graduate or equivalent. Medical terminology knowledge, proficiency in English, and strong verbal and written communication skills. CERT BLS certification. Preferred Proficient in phlebotomy, blood draws, EKG, and glucose scans. CERT Nursing Assistant.
