Our mission is to improve the lives of those impacted by sexual abuse and assault, and to prevent sexual violence in our community. We are seeking students participating in undergraduate degree programs in the field of Education, Public Health, Social Work, etc., to provide help with our community-level prevention services. SUMMARY This position is a learning opportunity for students to gain knowledge and experience in prevention services conducted within a rape crisis center. This internship role is responsible for supporting prevention subcommittee facilitation, agenda building, community outreach, and participation in prevention planning sessions. INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVES Prevention Support MOCSA’s Sexual Assault Prevention Coalition efforts to implement and sustain community violence prevention strategies. Assist in coalition development, including meeting planning, partner follow‑up, documentation, and reporting. Assist with agenda building and project planning. Create outreach materials, videos, webinars, or social media that will support ongoing community-level violence prevention programs. Community Work Engage new and current stakeholders and participate in efforts to build capacity around violence prevention at a community level. Attend community engagement opportunities, stakeholder meetings, outreach fairs, and community events to build relationships in the community and represent MOCSA at these events as assigned by supervisor. Perform outreach activities and build or strengthen community partner relationships. Participate in the implementation of community projects in alignment with violence prevention goals. Professional Development Participate in online courses, networking events, and webinars as identified by supervisor. Meet with supervisor to establish 30‑day goals regarding orientation to project and site within the first month of internship. Administrative Duties Attend all designated Prevention Department meetings (Wednesday, 1:30‑3 p.m.) and All Staff meetings. Participate in weekly supervision with assigned supervisor. Adhere to MOCSA Code of Ethics related to communication with staff, clients, volunteers and interns through all modes, i.e. virtual meetings, email, phone, and/or in-person meetings. The responsibilities described represent the primary responsibilities of the internship. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to do all assigned responsibilities. KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION The Intern must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in social work, criminal justice, or another related field. They should have a basic understanding of or interest in the field of sexual abuse, assault, or violence prevention. They must have a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle and mobile phone, and be able to pass a criminal and child abuse background screening. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS Physical Demands Work is typically performed in an office environment. Interns are regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Mental Demands Interns are required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve non‑routine and complex problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; work under intensive deadlines with frequent interruptions; and interact with staff, administration, funders, and others encountered in the course of work. WORK HOURS Business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Internship hours must be conducted during this time. A minimum of 15‑20 hours per week is expected. Minimum hours will be discussed and are dependent on applicant’s mandatory school needs as well as agency need. TRAVEL Frequent travel throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area to perform education and crisis intervention services. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle. Interns will gain valuable knowledge regarding the structure of non‑profit organizations, opportunities for community networking, and experience working at a macro level to combat sexual violence.
