About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Cardiac Tele/Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Day Shift, Every Other Weekend Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Experience in titrating drips such as Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Heparin, and Nitro. Description: The unit has 36 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio for MedSurg/Telemetry is typically 1:5, with a rare instance of 1:6 occurring only if anticipating a discharge. The PCU acuity ratio is 1:4. Patients include cardiac patients, post-cardiac catheterization, acute myocardial infarction, post-operative lung surgeries, respiratory failure, chest tubes, pacemakers, and post-percutaneous coronary intervention. This unit is higher acuity than most Telemetry units. RNs are required to titrate drips, with occasional titratable cardiac drips in use. A charge nurse is available 24/7, with days not taking patient assignments and nights taking patient assignments. There is a CNA for every 9 patients, with a team nursing approach of 1 RN and 1 CNA for 6-7 patients. CPAP and BiPAP are available, with respiratory therapists managing those treatments. Phillips monitors are utilized on the unit, with monitor techs available, but RNs are expected to read and interpret telemetry strips. Shift scheduling is for 12-hour shifts, with a weekend requirement of every other weekend. Travelers work into the holiday rotation schedule alongside permanent staff. Floating may occur to other MedSurg/Telemetry units based on staffing needs. Scrub color for RNs is royal blue. RNs are expected to manage a higher acuity of patients, with a preference for travelers having experience in stepdown nursing.
