Glassblower - Events

Description:

The glassblower, events position is a part time position creating an experience with clients through the art of glass blowing. Incumbents are able and willing to move easily between the roles of teaching and demonstrating the art of glassblowing to a customer and be able to explain the process in simple terms. May work in production if hours are available. 

Requirements:

Primary Duties:

  • Demonstrates high level of competence in glassblowing and consistently achieves excellent results in quality and production, across product type. 
  • Work with events staff to create experience with clients through the art of glass blowing.
  • Capably demonstrates best practices and methods for all aspects of the Hot Shop environment and event experience.
  • Role models safety and is capable of coaching and working with clients. 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that could include days, evenings, weekends, holidays and on-call shifts when necessary.
  • Clearly communicate to clients the methods and techniques to successfully create a unique piece of art. 
  • Provides instruction and guidance to blowing glass directly to clients.
  • Maintains event procedures for each session. Including Prepares space for experience prior to event. Cleans and takes down the event. 
  • Regularly provides feedback to management.
  • May work in production if hours are available but this position will be events hours first.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to perform work as demonstrator
  • Experience and knowledge of glassblowing well as broad understanding of techniques used by skilled glassblowers
  • Strong organizational skills with a high standard of attention to detail.
  • Ability to work some evenings, weekends, holidays and on-call shifts when necessary.
  • Professional, courteous, and clear verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starter and proactive; able to work independently without supervision.
  • Excellent work ethic.
  • Ability to multitask, managing many different projects with varying degrees of urgency and frequent changes.
  • Ability to think quickly and critically, with excellent problem-solving skills.

Education, Experience, Certifications, Licenses:

  • Demonstrated work history or educational track record in glass blowing or comparable products.
  • Have 6 years of glassblowing experience

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to regularly lift-up to 35 pounds and rarely lift to 50 pounds. 
  • Frequent standing and walking. 
  • Must be able to work in conditions that are impacted by weather and climate. 
  • Must be able to speak and hear well enough to conduct conversations. 
  • Vision abilities are critical and include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. 
  • Must be able to work in an environment where noise level is usually moderate. 
  • Frequent use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; must be able to frequently reach with hands and arms; below, at and above the waistline
