About the Role

We are looking for a highly‑motivated, business‑minded attorney to serve as Lead Counsel, HR Products on the Legal & Compliance team. You will partner closely with Product, Sales, and Compliance, and report to our Assistant General Counsel, HR Products. Your legal guidance will support the launch of our Employer of Record (“EOR”) services in new countries, ongoing product counseling, and employment counseling across our EOR roster. You will also provide wage and hour counsel to our broader HR product teams, including Payroll and Time. You are a self‑starter who thrives on learning about new jurisdictions and legal domains, and you want to build a world‑class, highly efficient product counsel function at a rapidly growing company.

What you will do

• Provide employment counsel to our EOR HR Advisor teams.
• Provide product counseling to our Time and Payroll teams, focusing on wage‑and‑hour compliance.
• Analyze and advise on employment rules and regulations for hiring and off‑boarding employees through an EOR in various jurisdictions.
• Prepare employment agreement templates, termination notice templates, and policy documents for our EOR.
• Partner with Product, Operations, Business Development, Sales, and Client Services to build and manage Rippling’s product counseling function.
• Navigate complex regulatory frameworks in the U.S. and abroad to create scalable and innovative solutions for our products and services.
• Drive a compliance culture and embed integrity and compliance in all operations as the company grows.
• Advise and assist with Rippling’s general legal needs as they arise.

What you will need

• 5+ years of experience in‑house or at a law firm.
• Substantive knowledge of and experience with employment law.
• Law degree (JD or equivalent).
• Experience with PEOs or EORs (preferred).
• Entrepreneurial mindset, solution‑oriented ethos, and willingness to roll up your sleeves.
• Passion for efficient processes.
• Strong project management and organizational skills.
• Excellent drafting and written and verbal communication skills—with the ability to break down complex legal jargon into clear, practical advice.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Sense of humor.

Salary Information

The pay range for this role is:

• 177,000 – 295,000 USD per year (U.S.)
• 135,000 – 225,000 CAD per year (C.A.)
