Software Design Engineer

As a Software Design Engineer on the Global Operations Information Systems Team, you will continue to grow your full-stack enterprise application development and support skills. In this position, you will develop and support full-stack and desktop applications, utilizing both cloud-based (AWS), and on-premises infrastructure, in a variety of development languages, predominantly in Python (Django), Java EE, and others.In addition, you will provide direct on-going support and continued development for a variety of legacy applications which support mission-critical manufacturing and test operations for our growing world-wide user base. Our infrastructure consists of both cloud-based, (AWS), and on premises components so previous experience with software development using best practices and tools such as containers, dev-ops pipelines, design patterns, API design, software testing automation is essential. While initially focused on learning and providing direct user support for the existing cloud and on-premises applications, as you grow your knowledge and experience with the existing applications, environment and customer base, you will become a key resource helping us to enhance our application offerings with new features and capabilities, targeted at a growing world-wide user community.The successful candidate must thrive in a small, tight-team environment, be comfortable working on-premises, have a strong sense of ownership, be comfortable working one-on-one with end users, and be a positive driver for the adoption and use of good software development practices to other developers, both on the team and to other groups within the organization. Team members are expected to be largely self-directed and able to create reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions in a mission-critical environment within budgetary and schedule constraints. This is an opportunity for the successful candidate to be part of a team that has an aggressively growing user base and is focused on applying their skills in the area(s) of cloud-based infrastructure design and support.Responsibilities: Learn and provide primary support for the legacy applications and data infrastructure, both web-based and local applications, (utilizing Python (Django), REACT, Java, C#).Develop a wide variety of new full-stack, I18N, web-based applications. Research, develop, and implement ongoing improvements to our AWS-based and on-premises infrastructure.Be a partner in our development and implementation of future technologies and initiatives such as, (but not limited to), continued migration to a Containers and Cloud Service architecture, implementation of microservices, DevOps, and SCADA integration & adoption. Champion software development best practices for other developers in the organization.Work directly with our user base to identify and understand improvements and enhancements to our services that will provide greater benefit to our users. Interface with our corporate IT and other functional organizations as necessary.Qualifications:Batchelor of Science degree in computer science, information technologies, or other engineering-related discipline.3+ years of focused full-stack web development using dev ops and software best practices including Software Design Patterns, Object Oriented design, CI-CD, and Unit/Integration Testing.Strong proficiency with full-stack web development using Python, REACT, or other front-end development frameworks.Proficiency with Java development, (Experience with Java-EE technologies significant plus.)Experience with Cloud and/or Container development using Docker and AWS.Experience with RDBMS development.
