Robert Half is partnering with a well-established organization in the environmental services industry to identify a Controller who will lead the accounting and finance function while serving as a strategic partner to company leadership.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys balancing high-level financial oversight with day-to-day operational involvement. The Controller will oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and process improvement initiatives while leading and developing a small accounting team.

What You'll Do

• Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll oversight, fixed assets, and month-end close.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Develop and maintain strong internal controls, policies, and accounting procedures.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis.
• Partner with operational leaders to evaluate performance, identify trends, and support strategic initiatives.
• Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and relationships with external auditors and advisors.
• Monitor KPIs and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
• Manage capital expenditure tracking, asset management, and fixed asset reporting.
• Support system enhancements, automation initiatives, and continuous process improvements across the finance function.

• SALARY RANGE: $110,000-$125,000

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Experience managing month-end and year-end close processes.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with accounting or ERP systems.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of an organization.
• High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA designation preferred.
• Experience within utilities, environmental services, transportation, construction, manufacturing, or other asset-intensive industries.
• Experience in multi-entity accounting environments.
• Familiarity with fleet, equipment, or fixed asset accounting.
