Phlebotomist - Full-Time

Accountability Objectives Responsible for performing phlebotomy in inpatient and outpatient settings, including medical/surgical and behavioral medicine areas. Duties include specimen collection, documentation, and submission to the laboratory, as well as specimen reception, client office, and satellite labs. Employment Type Full time Minimum Education, Licensure / Certification And Experience Required High School diploma or equivalent. Completion of Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Phlebotomy program or equivalent. Two‑year college degree in biological science or health‑related field (preferred). Current certification: AMT, ASCP, NCPT, or NCCT. Current Heart Saver (HS) certification. Special Skills / Aptitudes Ability to stand, walk, and move for 100% of work hours in a fast‑paced environment. Knowledge of medical terminology, laboratory orders, container types, anatomy, and physiology related to phlebotomy. Familiarity with PC applications (preferred). Excellent customer service orientation for interacting with hospital personnel, outside customers, and community groups. Position Qualifications Minimum of 3 months inpatient phlebotomy experience or equivalent health‑industry experience. Documented successful completion of phlebotomy externship (if applicable). Duties / Responsibilities Collect blood samples using appropriate phlebotomy techniques, adhere to policies for specimen handling, recognize factors that affect specimen quality, and use various collection methods (vacutainer, syringe, butterfly, capillary). Rotate to outpatient labs and specimen processing areas as needed, including answering phones, loading specimens, centrifuging, manual logging, managing stat paging, responding to result requests, and dispatching couriers. Perform miscellaneous computer duties and complete daily job assignments following Job Instruction Sheets. Maintain equipment and work area cleanliness. Work independently with minimal supervision. Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, the Trinity Health Institutional Integrity Program, and related policies. Support customer service expectations. Working Conditions Typical day involves 10% sitting, 40% standing, 50% walking, with occasional bending/stooping. Hands used for firm grasping and fine manipulation; high mental concentration required. Environment may expose to infectious diseases, hazardous waste, and chemicals.
