Convention Technology Expert (Convention Services)

LOCATION: MOBILE CONVENTION CENTER, 1 S Water St, Mobile, AL 36602. Job Overview The Convention Technology Expert – Field Technology Expert provides expert-level network deployment and maintenance to deliver a high‑quality experience for event customers at the Mobile Convention Center. The role requires onsite presence every working day and focuses on ensuring 100% uptime during customer events. Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions Subject Matter Expert: possess deep technical knowledge of network, hospitality, and product solutions; maintain current expertise through training and ongoing education. Project Support & Troubleshooting: address complex, multi‑customer issues; resolve escalations, network virtualizations, chronic problems, and monitor property performance. Technical Consulting & Community: advise field operations leaders and partner teams; contribute to cross‑regional Community of Field Technology Experts to share best practices and improve processes. Monitoring, Analysis, Trending & Reporting: support back‑office troubleshooting, analyze system data, and report on trends and root causes. System Improvement: analyze trending data, recommend operational improvements, and drive efficiencies across hospitality environments. Training & Mentoring: develop and deliver specialized training to technicians and participate in team meetings. Quality, Safety & Work Management: engage in work beyond regular hours, maintain a high safety standard, and manage responsibilities in field or customer premises. Physical & Environmental Requirements Operate within the physical limitations of ladders, fall protection gear, and lifting equipment (e.g., lift up to 400 lbs., navigate ladders and utility poles). Perform tasks that require bending, stooping, crawling, and handling tools and equipment up to 80 lbs. Work in both controlled commercial environments and outdoor weather conditions for extended periods. Qualifications Minimum High School diploma/GED with 5+ years in convention services or hospitality, or 3+ years in networking/IT/telecommunications. CCNA or equivalent associate‑level network certification. Proficiency with Cat3/5/6, coax, and fiber cabling installation, termination, and maintenance. Experience with Microsoft 365, SecureCRT, PuTTY, Cisco IOS, Cisco Prime, SolarWinds, Aruba AOS/Airwaves, Xirrus, Wi‑Fi, bluetooth, VoIP, and legacy phone systems. Strong interpersonal, presentation, and collaborative skills; ability to work independently with little supervision. Valid state driver’s license (if required) and ability to maintain certifications and clear background check. Willingness to work flexible schedules, overnight travel, and a physically demanding job. Preferred Managed service provider (MSP) experience. Convention services experience with large exhibits and meetings. Event/hospitality IT services background. SCTE certification. Compensation Base salary: $81,400.00 – $122,000.00 per year. Additional compensation may include incentive programs.
