School Nurse TeacherThe primary purpose of the School Nurse Teacher is to provide skilled nursing care to students on a daily basis and to teach health education. Responsibilities include conducting school health services, providing first aid for students and staff, and providing other medical care of students as needed. The role also involves identifying and meeting the needs of students with special health care needs in collaboration with parent/guardian and health care provider. Medication administration and maintenance, maintaining student health records, and reviewing physical and immunization records to ensure compliance are also part of the job. The School Nurse Teacher provides individual health education to students and families, communicates with families regarding students' health care needs, and offers health education resources and education to staff. They collaborate with staff around individual students' needs, facilitate dental, hearing, vision, and scoliosis screenings for students, and follow up with families regarding findings. The role also includes assisting families in connecting to community health resources, maintaining the health office in a safe and hygienic manner, providing health-related supplies for classrooms and field trips, planning and implementing health instruction for students, monitoring safety and communicable disease in the school setting, advising school administration on health matters as requested, conferring with the Charter School Physician as needed, attending staff and professional meetings as directed, complying with federal and state regulations for school health services, and instructing students in classroom health education.
