Emergency Room (ER) Nurse

This Emergency Room operates as a Level 2 Trauma Center, receiving STEMI and stroke patients. The unit features 44 total beds, including 4 adult trauma bays and 1 pediatric trauma bay. The department includes a fast track area with 11 beds, supporting efficient patient flow.

Responsibilities

• Manage patient care in the emergency department and assist with ER holds as necessary.
• Work in various areas, including triage, fast track, and critical care zones.
• Provide care for a diverse range of cases, including chest pain, shortness of breath, abdominal pain, and pediatric patients.
• Monitor and administer critical drips as required for patient stabilization.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, mid-level providers, and various support staff.

Staffing & Patient Load

The emergency department is staffed with at least 2 MDs and mid-level providers, supported by nursing and technical staff. The unit sees a daily patient volume of 100-105 patients. Nurse-patient ratios are generally 1:4, with the possibility of flexing to 1:6 in designated areas.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of recent Emergency Room experience; travel experience preferred.
• Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, CPI, ENPC/PALS, NIHSS, NRP, and TNCC.

Equipment & Support

• Access to respiratory therapy and telemonitoring capabilities, with nurses reading their own EKG strips.
• X-Ray and CT facilities are located adjacent to the ER for efficient patient transport.
• Nurses are responsible for lab draws and starting IVs with the help of technical staff.

Scheduling & Shifts

• Shifts available include 6:45 AM - 7:15 PM, 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM, and 1:00 PM - 1:00 AM. Nurses are required to arrive 15 minutes early for their shifts.
• Self-scheduling is encouraged, although block scheduling is not permitted.
• Weekend and holiday work is required on a rotating basis, with shifts every other weekend.

Orientation & Housing

Orientation includes 1.5 days on the unit, ensuring a comprehensive introduction to team-based care. Housing options are available upon request.
