Position Overview

Summary: The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations within the organization. The EHS Manager develops, implements, and manages the company's EHS programs to foster a safe and sustainable work environment. This position requires strong knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, as well as the ability to engage employees, enforce protocols, and mitigate workplace risks.

  Essential Functions

1. Compliance Management:
2. Monitor and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local EHS regulations and standards.
3. Prepare, submit, and maintain necessary environmental permits and reports.
4. Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess compliance and identify areas of improvement.
5. Ensure the organization is up to date with the latest environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations.

1. Safety Program Development:

1. Develop, implement, and maintain safety management programs to prevent accidents, injuries, and environmental hazards.
2. Create and enforce safe work procedures, emergency response plans, and hazard communication systems.
3. Evaluate safety of new industry processes and equipment.
4. Collaborate with department leaders to ensure safety policies are integrated into daily operations.
5. Conduct training sessions and workshops to promote employee awareness of safety and environmental practices.

1. Risk Assessment and Mitigation:

1. Conduct thorough risk assessments of work areas and equipment to identify potential hazards.
2. Lead the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
3. Develop and maintain emergency response plans and conduct drills to ensure preparedness for accidents or environmental incidents.

1. Environmental Management:

1. Manage waste disposal, recycling programs, and energy use reduction efforts.
2. Oversee environmental impact assessments and mitigation strategies for projects and operations.
3. Ensure adherence to environmental sustainability goals and policies.
4. Perform EHS audits and implement audit recommendations.
5. Conduct regular site inspections to determine environmental impacts

1. Reporting and Documentation:

1. Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident investigations, and compliance reports.
2. Compile and submit regular EHS reports to senior management, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.
3. Track performance metrics and KPIs to measure the effectiveness of EHS programs.

1. Employee Engagement and Training:

1. Provide ongoing safety training, including OSHA certifications and job-specific safety training.
2. Foster a safety-first culture through leadership, employee engagement, and communication.
3. Act as the primary contact for employees concerns regarding safety, health, and environmental issues.

1. Continuous Improvement:

1. Regularly assess the effectiveness of the EHS programs and recommend improvements based on industry’s best practices.
2. Compile and present annual and monthly EHS continuous improvement plans.
3. Stay informed on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the EHS field.
4. Promote the integration of sustainability initiatives into the company’s operational strategy.

   2. Adhere to relevant industry standards, regulations and safety protocols to ensure that work meets legal and regulatory requirements.

Requirements / Training and Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred.
• Experience: 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing plant in an EHS management role; familiarity with accident investigation and prevention; applied ergonomics expertise, and in-depth understanding of EPA and OSHA regulations. A good understanding of root cause analysis for investigation of incidents is essential.
• Certifications: Certification in EHS (such as OSHA, CSP, CIH, or NEBOSH) is highly preferred
• Knowledge & Skills: In-depth understanding of EHS regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.).
• Strong experience in gathering requirements, analysis, and documentation. 
• Proficient computer skills, especially in applications such as Excel, databases, Word, EHS management software, and web-based systems.
• Ability to create and maintain positive and professional business relationships with both internal associates and external customers.
• Proven diagnostic problem solving and the ability to assess risk and implement mitigation strategies.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work independently. 

Work Environment

The EHS Manager will be required to spend a significant amount of time on the manufacturing floor to manage and drive EHS improvement. 

• Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
• Prior experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. 
• Be able to sit for long periods.
• Ability to work late shifts, weekends, and holidays.
• Able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment.
• Able to lift, push, or pull up to 15lbs.
