Associate Attorney – Intellectual Property (Hybrid, New Jersey)

Direct Counsel is representing an AmLaw 100 firm seeking an Associate Attorney to join its Intellectual Property Practice in New Jersey. This is a hybrid position offering the opportunity to work on a diverse range of patent matters with clients across multiple industries, while benefiting from both a strong local presence and a global platform.

Responsibilities:

• Draft and prosecute chemical- and mechanical-related patent applications.

• Manage and counsel clients on global patent portfolios (preferred).

• Prepare freedom-to-operate and related legal opinions (preferred).

• Support strategic development and procurement of patent portfolios.

• Collaborate with clients, attorneys, and technical professionals on complex IP issues.

Qualifications:

• 2–5 years of focused experience in patent prosecution.

• Degree (or advanced degree) in Chemical Engineering strongly preferred; degrees in Materials Science, Chemistry, or relevant experience also considered.

• Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

• Active New Jersey Bar membership (or ability to obtain promptly).

• Strong understanding of chemistry and related principles.

• Excellent academic credentials, writing, and analytical skills.

• Ability to work directly with clients in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Base salary range: $185,000 – $230,000 (commensurate with experience and location).
