Job Title: Financial Coach (Mason/Grays Harbor)
Location: Based out of Centralia, WA with regular travel to Grays Harbor and/or Pacific counties
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Full-Time (Day Shift, In-Person)
Compensation: $31.79 houly on temp agency for probationary period; then $62,000 Annual Salary

Position Summary 

America Works of Washington, Inc., a socially conscious organization committed to helping individuals achieve economic self-sufficiency, is seeking a Financial Coach to support participant financial stability, financial empowerment, and long-term economic mobility within a workforce development program serving Mason and Pacific Counties. 

The Financial Coach provides participant-centered financial coaching to help individuals identify and overcome financial barriers, develop financial goals, strengthen financial confidence, and build strategies related to budgeting, savings, credit building, debt management, benefits navigation, and asset development. 

Working as part of the Career Success Team, the Financial Coach collaborates with Career Coaches, Eligibility Specialists, employers, training providers, and community partners to provide coordinated support that helps participants achieve employment success, retention, and long-term financial security. 

The ideal candidate enjoys working directly with people, building relationships, and helping individuals develop practical strategies to improve their financial well-being. Experience in financial coaching, personal finance, case management, benefits navigation, customer service, workforce development, social services, or other participant-focused roles is valued.

The candidate must be willing to travel between Aberdeen and Shelton locations and provide services at multiple sites based on program needs. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

Financial Coaching & Participant Support 

Provide one-on-one financial coaching and support to program participants.

Conduct financial assessments to understand participant income, expenses, financial goals, barriers, and areas for support.

Help participants develop individualized financial action plans with goals, strategies, resources, and follow-up steps.

Support participants with budgeting, savings strategies, credit building, debt management, and improving financial confidence.

Provide ongoing coaching, encouragement, accountability, and problem-solving support to help participants achieve their goals.

Build trusting, respectful, and culturally responsive relationships with participants.

Benefits Navigation & Financial Stability 

Support participants in understanding and accessing income supports and basic needs resources, including TANF, SNAP, housing assistance, transportation assistance, and other community resources.

Help participants understand how changes in employment and income may impact benefits and household financial stability.

Assist participants in identifying resources and strategies to overcome financial barriers that may impact employment success.

Provide guidance on financial planning during career transitions, increased income, and changes in household circumstances.

Asset Building & Financial Empowerment 

Support eligible participants with Matched Savings Investment Accounts (MISA) and other asset-building opportunities.

Help participants develop savings goals, establish savings habits, and understand strategies for building long-term financial stability.

Provide education related to asset building, financial planning, and economic mobility.

Track participant progress toward financial goals and celebrate milestones.

Financial Literacy & Workshops 

Facilitate financial literacy workshops and group education sessions as needed.

Provide education on topics such as:

Budgeting and spending plans

Savings strategies

Credit building and credit management

Debt reduction

Banking products

Identity theft prevention

Benefits planning

Asset building

Adapt financial education materials to meet the needs of diverse participant populations.

Career Success Team Collaboration 

Collaborate with Career Coaches and the Career Success Team to provide integrated employment and financial support.

Coordinate services to ensure financial goals align with participant career plans and employment goals.

Participate in case reviews, team meetings, and coordinated service planning.

Connect participants with internal programs, community resources, employers, training providers, and supportive services.

Documentation & Compliance  

Maintain accurate participant records, financial assessments, case notes, and service documentation.

Complete timely data entry and track participant goals, progress, outcomes, and milestones.

Maintain confidentiality and follow program policies, funding requirements, and documentation standards.

Support reporting requirements by documenting participant achievements, outcomes, and success stories.

Community Engagement 

Develop positive relationships with community organizations, financial institutions, and service providers.

Represent the organization professionally at partner meetings, outreach events, and community activities.

Identify resources and partnerships that support participant financial stability and success.

 

Qualifications 

Associate or bachelor’s degree in finance, business, human services, social work, workforce development, counseling, education, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience will be considered.

Experience providing financial coaching, case management, customer service, benefits navigation, workforce development, social services, or other participant-focused support preferred.

Understanding of personal finance concepts, including budgeting, savings, credit building, debt management, and financial goal setting.

Ability to understand and navigate income supports and basic needs resources, including TANF, SNAP, housing assistance, transportation resources, and other community supports.

Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly to individuals and groups.

Ability to build trusting relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and support participants facing financial or employment barriers.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate documentation, and meet deadlines.

Ability to adapt to changing tasks, priorities, and participant needs.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Familiarity with CRM systems, client management systems, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, or similar platforms preferred.

Ability to facilitate workshops or group education sessions preferred.

Bilingual or multilingual communication skills preferred, particularly languages relevant to the communities served.

Ability to work onsite and provide in-person services to participants.
