Medical Laboratory Technician

Pay Range: $34.15 - $47.93 Under minimal supervision, applies advanced technical skills and seasoned judgment to provide a full range of sample test analyses and laboratory services independently and competently in a SEARHC laboratory. Depending on location, shift work and night and weekend call may be required to provide 24-hour laboratory coverage. Perform CLIA defined waived, moderate, and high complexity testing. Works with infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. Responsibilities Perform full range of simple-to-complex sample testing and laboratory services. Follows policies and procedures and is competent to perform testing in microbiology, transfusion medicine, molecular biology, and infectious disease safety. Perform patient specimen testing and ensure sample suitability. Demonstrate proficiency in newborn/infant heel-sticks; child and adult finger-sticks; newborn, infant, child and adult venipuncture. Evaluate, judge, and interpret test results and ensure accuracy before release of test results. Accept and process samples for on-site testing or forward to contracted reference laboratories. Identify and resolve inconsistencies in patient results. Maintain laboratory equipment and instruments; ensure quality control and functionality of instruments. Prepare lab for inspection from regulatory bodies. Use good customer service practices to answer questions from patients, providers, and others regarding test processes, patient results, or sample collection techniques. Assist in training of new employees and laboratory students. Participate in continuing education programs. Proficient use of LIS and other computer programs. Monitor, maintain, order and stock laboratory supplies. Qualifications An Associate’s degree in Medical Technology or related field – required Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) OR Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA) OR equivalent certification – required High school diploma or equivalent Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years 1 year of clinical laboratory experience – required Knowledge of protocols and practices in infectious disease control, instrument maintenance, and quality assurance Regulatory requirements and ability to follow laboratory procedures Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships Operating a personal computer utilizing LIS and a variety of software applications Ability to perform a full range of testing in microbiology and transfusion medicine Ability to communicate in oral and written format and provide customer service Assist management in monitoring, maintaining, and ordering laboratory supplies Required Certifications: Certified Phlebotomy Technician (National Phlebotomy Association), Clinical Competency Assessment (SEARHC), Medical Lab Technician (ASCP) Note: Promotional language and non-job-related content have been removed.
