Fusion Medical Staffing is seeking a skilled Surgical First Assistant - Technologist for a 13-week travel assignment in Grand Rapids, MI. Required Qualifications:

One year of recent experience as a Surgical First Assistant- Technologist
Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA or CRNFA) certifications
Current Surgical Technologist Certification
Current BLS (AHA/ ARC) Certification
Preferred Qualifications:

ACLS (AHA /ARC) certifications
Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position
Summary:

The Surgical First Assistant is responsible for providing advanced nursing care directly assisting surgeons throughout surgical procedures. Responsibilities can include preoperative patient assessment, intraoperative assistance, and postoperative care management. The position requires exceptional surgical skills, critical thinking abilities, excellent communication, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and professional ethics in the operating room environment.
Essential Work Functions:

Assist the surgeon during operative procedures by providing exposure, hemostasis, and other technical functions that help the surgeon perform a safe operation with optimal results for the patient
Position, prep, and drape patients for surgery according to established protocols to ensure sterility and safety
Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team by providing the appropriate surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment
Perform wound closure, dressing application, and other technical tasks as directed by the surgeon
Maintain sterile techniques and promptly address any breaches to ensure patient safety
Monitor patient's condition intraoperatively, report changes to the surgeon, and respond appropriately to emergent situations
Observe and document patient information as needed within scope of practice
Actively participate in Universal Protocol and timeout to confirm patient identity, procedure, surgical site and adhere to all safety protocols
Ensure the availability and functionality of surgical machines, instruments, and implants, addressing any issues promptly
Collaborate with the surgical team, including anesthesiologists, circulating nurses, and scrub techs, to ensure efficient workflow and patient safety
Stay informed on advancements in surgical techniques, robotics, and perioperative care through continuing education
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
Required Essential Skills:

Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
The ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language
Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
Physical Abilities

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), push, pull, and bend
  Interpersonal Skills
• Must be able to work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism
  Technical/Motor Skills
• Must have the ability to grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment
  Mental Requirements
• Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally, as well as working without assistance from other personnel. Must be able to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail
  Sensory
• Must possess visual acuity and ability to effectively communicate
