The Role: Principal Consultant - Critical Minerals
This role will contribute to the growth of our global critical minerals consulting team and to the execution of our broader Energy Transition team's projects for private and public sector clients by providing analytical rigor, expertise in model development, and the ability to manage entire workstreams and develop client-ready deliverables.
The Principal Consultant, focused primarily on critical minerals but with a good handle of other energy-related topics, is expected to help build up our consulting capabilities around critical minerals and work closely with clients and internal consulting team members to ensure that bespoke consulting projects are delivered with quality, on time and within budget.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a dynamic team of consultants and experts with wide-ranging backgrounds in energy and the energy transition. The varied and changing nature of our projects leads to development of a diverse set of skills, and exposure to different industries and clients, including senior industry leaders and policy makers.
Responsibilities:
Effectively manage workstreams within a project, under the direction of the project manager.
Develop market analyses and forecasts across the critical minerals value chains, including supply-demand modelling, price outlooks, trade flow analysis, competitive positioning, and industry regulatory assessments.
Develop or maintain advanced cost, financial, market, and valuation models across critical minerals value chains, including mining, processing, refining, and downstream markets.
Develop client-ready insights and storylines based on data analysis and industry expertise.
Conduct client interviews, workshops, and presentations to gather information and present findings.
Efficiently review and provide guidance on analytical and modelling work completed by other team members, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and quality.
Contribute to business development efforts of our critical minerals consulting practice (proposals, scoping calls, conferences, etc.)
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients through effective communication and understanding of client needs.
Be able to work autonomously in the execution of consulting engagements.
What We're Looking For:
Proven experience in consulting, economics or financial advisory, corporate strategy or a related analytical role.
Strong mineral economics skills and in-depth knowledge of the metals and mining industry and critical minerals are key for this position.
Technical experience in areas related to chemical processing, process engineering, energy, or industrial value chains is highly valued.
Critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills are required to structure ambiguous problems, develop fact-based hypotheses, and create compelling, executive-level narratives supported by rigorous analysis.
Demonstrated ability to work with autonomy and minimal direction once priorities are agreed.
Strong written and oral presentation skills in English, knowledge of Spanish or Portuguese is appreciated.
Expectations:
Some travel is required, with an average around 20% of the time (but could occasionally be more)
Demonstrated ability to work well in a team-oriented environment providing ideas and open feedback.
