Reporting to the Vice President, Strategic Transactions, this role will serve as the primary legal and business partner for clinical contracting matters across clinical trial sites and external vendors.This is a hands-on position responsible for personally managing the drafting, review, negotiation, and execution of a broad range of clinical agreements. The successful candidate will combine deep clinical contracting expertise with practical business judgment to support efficient study startup and execution while appropriately managing risk.This role is based in our San Francisco headquarters with an expectation of 3 days per week in the office.WHAT YOU'LL DOLead and conduct negotiations of clinical study agreements, including clinical trial agreements, confidentiality agreements, amendments, informed consent-related documents, and other site-facing agreementsDraft, review, negotiate, and manage vendor contracts, including master service agreements, statements of work, material transfer agreements, consulting agreements, and other development-related agreementsOwn the end-to-end clinical contracting process for global, multi-site clinical trials, ensuring timely execution in support of development milestonesServe as the primary contracting partner to Clinical Operations, Clinical Development, Procurement, Finance, and Legal teamsProvide practical, risk-based guidance on contractual issues and drive resolution of negotiation escalationsOwn and continuously enhance clinical contracting templates, negotiation playbooks, and standard agreement language, incorporating lessons learned from negotiations, evolving regulatory requirements, and industry best practicesPartner closely with internal stakeholders to identify contracting risks, develop solutions, and ensure agreement terms support operational executionOversee day-to-day management of external site contracting and budget vendors, including governance meetings, KPI reviews, and service work order executionMonitor changes in applicable regulations and industry practices and incorporate updates into contracting processes and templatesDrive continuous improvement of clinical contracting processes, templates, and negotiation playbooks to enhance efficiency, consistency, and scalability across Vir's global clinical portfolioWHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU BRINGJD and 10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences industry, with significant experience negotiating clinical trial agreements and related development contractsDeep expertise independently drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and managing a high volume of clinical trial and vendor agreementsDemonstrated experience supporting global clinical development programs across multiple countries and regionsStrong understanding of clinical research regulations and country-specific contracting requirementsAbility to balance legal risk with business and operational priorities while providing practical, solution-oriented guidanceExperience collaborating with Clinical Operations, Development, Legal, Procurement, and Finance stakeholders in a fast-paced environmentKnowledge of outsourcing models, vendor governance, procurement processes, and contract execution workflowsExcellent negotiation, communication, project management, and stakeholder management skillsProven ability to independently manage a complex and diverse portfolio of contracting activities with minimal supervision#LI-AS1#LI-OnsiteWHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE OFFERThe expected salary range for this position is $1203,500 to $284,000 per year. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.Vir Biotechnology's compensation and benefits are aligned with the current market and commensurate with the person’s experience and qualifications.
