Collaboration with the engineering team is necessary for obtaining answers and leveraging experience. Outstanding distribution engineers understand power distribution systems, field operations, and customer assistance. They confidently seek help when needed and represent GPC with integrity. Key Responsibilities System Design: Design and plan electrical distribution systems and services. This could be for maintenance, reliability upgrades, load additions, or new business. Upgrades and Maintenance: Identify opportunities for system upgrades or replacements and plan maintenance activities to prevent disruptions. Quality Assurance: Conduct quality assurance reviews of distribution system designs and implementation to guarantee high-quality standards. Documentation: Maintain accurate records, drawings, and documentation related to distribution systems. Safety: Promote and enforce safety protocols for both employees and the general public to minimize accidents and hazards. Understand the capabilities and limitations of equipment used for installation and operation (e.g. bore machines, line trucks, hydrovac, etc.); understand the role of linemen, contractors, etc.; understand prerequisite steps to project design to enable smooth construction turnover. Internal & External Client Relationships: GPC interacts with many other utilities, AHJs, and contract entities. It is important to be able to ask the right questions both internally and externally, to determine steps forward in design and construction. Being a 'self-starter' is a critical component of being an effective distribution engineer. Qualifications Education: A Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, civil engineering, or a related field is required. Experience: 2 to 10 years of experience in distribution system design and management is essential. Licensure: A Professional Engineer (PE) license is often preferred or required, depending on the industry and region. Technical Skills: Proficiency in distribution system design software and tools, along with an in-depth knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to distribution systems. Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to address technical challenges. Project Management: Experience in project planning, budgeting, and execution. Communication: Excellent communication skills for working with cross-functional teams and clients. Attention to Detail: Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and safety. Ability to adapt to changing technology and industry trends. Additional Information We are looking for someone who can perform customer-facing work and handle both overhead and underground distribution systems. The candidate should have experience working with both residential and commercial electrical service needs and be able to manage workload independently. Ability to bring questions and concerns to the team and leadership expeditiously, communicate straightforwardly with all types of end user customers, and be familiar with basic grid design standards set by Southern Company. Programs and Tools Experience with JETS, Socket, ARMS, and OFS (which is undergoing changes) is beneficial. Training will be provided for the latest updates. Join our team and play a pivotal role in ensuring the continuous and reliable supply of electrical power and other utilities. Your expertise in distribution system design and management is essential for optimizing our networks and maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
