ASCP Clinical Coding Specialist III - Part Time Variable

Join a dynamic healthcare team as a Clinical Coding Specialist III, working part-time with a flexible schedule. In this role, you will meticulously review complete medical records to assign precise and accurate codes for diagnoses and conditions that influenced patient care plans. Your expertise will ensure that each record contains the necessary documentation to support principal diagnoses, identify comorbidities, complications, and procedures essential for Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) assignment.

This position plays a critical role in maintaining an accurate case mix index, which informs key management and strategic decisions. You will apply your knowledge of ICD-CM coding principles under the Prospective Payment System and utilize your strong analytical skills to make impactful decisions that affect hospital reimbursement and review outcomes.

Education

A Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management or equivalent training and experience is required. Professional credentials such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or equivalent are mandatory.

Experience

Applicants should have at least five years of coding experience, preferably within a hospital environment, with a minimum of two years in inpatient coding. Experience in Health Information Management within acute care settings, Peer Review Organizations, Quality Assurance, or Utilization Review is highly desirable.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medical record content.
• Familiarity with Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS) definitions.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently with significant decision-making responsibilities.
• Ability to concentrate in a busy, noisy environment with frequent interruptions.
• Near visual acuity and motor coordination to operate computer equipment.
• Willingness to commute between nursing units and the Medical Record Department.
