Registered Nurse (RN) - Night Shift

Job Overview Registered Nurse (RN) – Night Shift (6:00 pm to 6:30 am) – 36490 Location: Pierre, South Dakota – South Dakota Women’s Prison Salary: $34.00 to $39.00 per hour, plus $5.00 night differential, $1.50 weekend differential, and potential overtime. Posted 4 days ago. The position is open until filled. Responsibilities Provide skilled nursing care for incarcerated offenders in various clinical settings. Document patient care accurately and in a timely manner to maintain comprehensive inmate medical records. Transcribe reports at shift change. Deliver standardized patient education within established nursing guidelines. Preserve patient confidentiality. Administer medications and collaborate on treatment plans. Employ infection control measures and provide crisis intervention. Interview and triage offenders; perform physical and emotional assessments during triage, sick‑call, and emergency situations. Assist physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners with minor medical and surgical procedures. Order and restock medications and supplies. Participate in restraining an offender when required for medical reasons. Monitor and report the physical and emotional condition of offenders, including medication effectiveness. Maintain safety and security of the clinical environment, including contraband control and counting of drugs and equipment. Operate a variety of clinical equipment available in the assigned unit. Report security or safety violations through written documentation. Attend and complete required training programs, including the Basic Training Academy and the Threat Pattern Recognition self‑defense course. Work any shift, including weekends and holidays. Qualifications Current, valid Registered Nurse license from the South Dakota Board of Nursing or an eligible state under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact. Ability to treat patients daily in a variety of settings. Ability to follow patient confidentiality standards. Ability to respond to emergency situations involving offenders and/or medical scenarios. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong decision‑making and discernment skills. Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions. Flexibility to work a variety of shifts on a full‑time basis. Preferred Qualifications Experience in acute care or long‑term nursing. Charge nurse and/or supervisory experience. Conditions of Employment All offers are contingent upon: a successful background investigation, a urine drug screen, tuberculosis screening, and the ability to perform the essential functions of the position. The position may require carrying Oleoresin Capsicum (pepper spray); candidates must complete a written and practical self‑defense exam and CPR training to AHA guidelines.
