RN Operating Room Circulator

The Registered Nurse Operating Room Circulator provides professional nursing care in the perioperative setting by coordinating workflow outside the sterile field. This role includes preparing patients, verifying documentation, ensuring equipment readiness, completing safety checklists, and facilitating communication among the surgical team. The RN advocates for patient safety and comfort while maintaining situational awareness and supporting sterile staff. The position requires collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to promote optimal patient outcomes, safety, and a positive patient experience, with participation in on-call coverage for urgent surgical cases. Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
• Implement and evaluate nursing interventions and patient responses.
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately per provider orders and policy.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions or escalation of care.
• Provide patient and family education related to care, medications, and discharge needs.
• Coordinate perioperative workflow outside the sterile field, including patient preparation and equipment readiness.
• Verify documentation and complete safety checklists to ensure a safe surgical environment.
• Facilitate communication among the surgical team and support sterile staff as needed.
• Document key intraoperative events accurately and timely in the electronic health record.
• Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care and facilitate referrals and follow-up.
• Participate in quality and performance improvement activities and adhere to regulatory, safety, and infection prevention requirements.
• Provide guidance and delegation to ancillary staff and support orientation, mentoring, and education of staff and students.
• Float to other departments or assignments as needed.

• Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Alaska.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Clinical competency validation within 3 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
• High Risk Competency validation within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter.
• Strong clinical judgment, organization, prioritization, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical systems.

• Specialty-specific certifications such as Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC), or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), as applicable.
• Experience in perioperative nursing or operating room environments.

• Participation in on-call coverage to support urgent and emergent surgical cases is required.
• Ability to lift, push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
• Work in a moderate-to-high noise clinical environment.
• Compliance with safety practices, reporting injuries and unsafe conditions, and cooperation in safety investigations.

• Shift assignments may include day, evening, night, and on-call rotations to support surgical case needs.
• Flexibility to float to other departments or assignments as required.
