Police Officer (In-State Lateral)

Position Overview Allen Police Department is seeking a TCOLE certified lateral police officer. The officer will protect and serve the city’s property and citizens through patrol, enforcement of traffic laws, investigation of crimes, and community relations. Essential Job Functions Patrol the city on foot, bicycle, and vehicle, deterring crime and responding to high‑risk situations. Enforce traffic laws, issue citations, and process traffic stops. Report and investigate motor vehicle accidents, collect evidence, and file reports. Investigate crimes, interview witnesses and suspects, and present evidence to the District Attorney. Maintain positive community relations through public outreach and assistance. Key Qualifications and Experience Minimum of 30 college credits with a GPA of 2.0 or higher and two years of continuous full‑time law‑enforcement service, OR a high‑school diploma/GED with three years of continuous full‑time service. Successful completion of a field training program while assigned to patrol duties. Certification & Other Requirements Current and valid Texas Driver’s License Valid Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) license At least 21 years of age Eligibility Requirements Citizen of the United States No disqualifying criminal convictions or pending charges Good moral character and ability to work shift, holidays, and weekends Physically able to perform required duties (see Physical Assessment section) Satisfactory background, polygraph, and psychological examinations Selection Process (High‑Level Overview) Entrance Examination – reading, math, spelling/grammar, and writing skills (minimum 70% each). Physical Assessment – 1.5‑mile run, 300‑meter run, push‑ups, and sit‑ups. Background, polygraph, and psychological examination. Final interview with the Chief of Police or designee.
