Job Description Job Description Medical Billing Supervisor Job Summary We are seeking an experienced, highly organized, and dependable Medical Billing Supervisor to join our professional medical practice. This is primarily a medical billing and coding position , with a smaller portion of the role dedicated to front desk and administrative responsibilities. The successful candidate must have professional certification in medical billing and coding , strong knowledge of insurance billing and coding procedures, and the ability to oversee and manage the billing workflow. The candidate should be confident, professional, detail-oriented, and capable of communicating effectively with management, staff, patients, insurance companies, and other professionals. This is an in-office position . Remote and out-of-state applicants will not be considered. Primary Responsibilities Medical Billing & Coding — Primary Responsibility Manage and oversee the daily medical billing and coding operations. Accurately code medical services using appropriate CPT, ICD-10-CM, and applicable HCPCS codes. Review documentation and claims for coding and billing accuracy. Prepare and submit insurance claims accurately and timely. Verify insurance eligibility and benefits as needed. Monitor claim status and follow up on outstanding claims. Research and resolve denied, rejected, and underpaid claims. Identify and correct billing and coding errors. Post insurance and patient payments accurately. Monitor accounts receivable and outstanding patient balances. Follow up on unpaid balances and outstanding payments. Communicate with insurance companies regarding claims, denials, payments, and billing issues. Maintain accurate billing, coding, and financial records. Ensure compliance with applicable billing, coding, insurance, and office policies. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements. Review work for accuracy and ensure responsibilities are completed timely. Establish priorities and help ensure deadlines are consistently met. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred. Front Desk & Administrative Responsibilities — Secondary While billing and coding will be the primary focus of this position, the individual will also provide front desk and administrative support as needed, including: Answer and manage incoming telephone calls professionally. Assist patients with general questions, scheduling, and billing inquiries. Handle incoming and outgoing emails. Schedule appointments and coordinate calendars. Required Qualifications Current certification in Medical Billing and Coding is REQUIRED. Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and insurance billing procedures. Experience submitting and following up on insurance claims. Experience handling claim denials, rejections, appeals, and accounts receivable. Experience with EMR/EHR and practice management/billing software. Supervisory, team lead, or management experience strongly preferred. Strong understanding of billing and coding workflows and best practices. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to independently draft professional emails and correspondence. Proficiency in Microsoft 365, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and HIPAA compliance. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is an experienced and certified medical billing and coding professional who is ready to take on a supervisory role. We are looking for someone who can do more than simply process claims. This individual should be able to understand the entire billing and coding process, identify problems, resolve issues, oversee workflow, provide direction to staff, and take ownership of the department's day-to-day operations. The successful candidate must be comfortable being a working supervisor—someone who performs billing and coding responsibilities while also providing leadership, guidance, and accountability to the team. Front desk responsibilities will represent a portion of the position and will be performed to support the overall operation of the practice.
