Position Overview

The Security System Technician is responsible for installing, programming, servicing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electronic security systems at customer locations. This position works with access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, intercom, and other physical security technologies.

The ideal candidate is technically capable, mechanically inclined, customer-focused, and comfortable working independently in the field. This role requires the ability to understand security system architecture, diagnose system issues, read drawings and wiring diagrams, and effectively communicate technical information to customers and project teams.
What You'll Actually Do

• Install, configure, program, test, troubleshoot, and service electronic security systems.
• Work with access control, video surveillance/CCTV, intrusion detection, intercom, and related security technologies .
• Install and terminate low-voltage cabling, power supplies, readers, locks, cameras, sensors, control panels, network devices, and other system components.
• Configure and troubleshoot security system hardware and software.
• Perform system commissioning, testing, and customer demonstrations.
• Diagnose equipment, wiring, communication, network, and programming issues.
• Read and interpret project drawings, wiring diagrams, equipment specifications, and system documentation.
• Perform preventive maintenance and respond to service calls.
• Identify system deficiencies and recommend appropriate repairs or upgrades.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, sales personnel, customers, and other technicians to resolve technical issues.
• Document service activities, system changes, programming, and customer recommendations accurately.
• Maintain accurate records of installed equipment, system configurations, and service work.
• Ensure installations and service work comply with applicable codes, manufacturer requirements, and Tech Electronics standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
• Provide professional customer service and represent Tech Electronics positively at customer locations.
• Maintain current knowledge of security technologies, products, networking concepts, and industry practices.
• Participate in training and certification programs as required.

Must-Haves

• Previous experience installing, servicing, or troubleshooting electronic security systems or related low-voltage systems.
• Working knowledge of access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, or similar security technologies.
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Basic understanding of low-voltage electrical systems and wiring practices.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, test equipment, and computer-based programming tools.
• Basic understanding of IP networking concepts, including IP addresses, switches, PoE, and network connectivity.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Professional communication and customer service skills.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to travel to customer sites and work in a variety of environments.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with enterprise access control platforms.
• Experience with IP-based video surveillance and VMS platforms.
• Experience with intrusion detection systems.
• Experience with intercom, visitor management, or other security technologies.
• Experience troubleshooting TCP/IP networks and security devices.
• Manufacturer certifications or formal security system training.
• NICET, ESA, or other relevant industry certifications.
• Experience with fire alarm or other life safety systems.
• Previous experience in commercial, healthcare, education, government, or industrial security environments.

• Troubleshooting using meters, laptops, software, and manufacturer tools

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in elevated areas for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry equipment, tools, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in mechanical rooms, construction environments, ceilings, attics, and other customer locations.
• Ability to safely use ladders, lifts, hand tools, and power tools.
• Ability to distinguish colors and identify wiring and device indicators.
• Ability to work occasional overtime, evenings, or weekends based on customer and project requirements.
