The Role: Stress Engineer - Aircraft Structures & Analysis

Location: Wichita, Kansas



About the Role


We are seeking a skilled Structural Stress Engineer to support aircraft structural analysis across modification, certification, and flight test programs. This role will focus on both classical hand calculations and advanced finite element modeling to evaluate metallic and composite structures.


You'll play a key role in ensuring structural integrity, supporting certification efforts, and collaborating across engineering, suppliers, and regulatory bodies to deliver compliant and high-performance aerospace solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis using classical hand methods and finite element analysis (FEA) on metallic and composite structures
• Develop and maintain formal engineering documentation, including structural analysis reports and specifications
• Prepare and present design review materials for internal teams, customers, and suppliers
• Review and support preliminary sizing of structural components, reinforcements, and load paths
• Support the full design lifecycle from conceptual design through detailed design and certification
• Author, review, and approve structural substantiation reports in compliance with regulatory standards (FAA, TCCA, EASA)
• Evaluate primary and secondary structures, as well as flight test installations, for static strength
• Conduct fatigue and damage tolerance (F&DT) assessments based on mission profiles
• Support MRB activities and provide engineering dispositions for non-conformances as needed
• Collaborate cross-functionally with design, manufacturing, and certification teams

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline
• 4+ years of relevant structural/stress analysis experience in aerospace
• U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (ITAR compliant)
• Strong proficiency with FEM tools (e.g., Patran, Nastran, Nasgro, Altair)
• Experience with CATIA V5
• Working knowledge of aircraft structural load paths and analysis methodologies (static, fatigue, damage tolerance)
• Familiarity with civil aircraft certification requirements and processes
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work in cross-functional teams
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting MRB activities and dispositions
• Background in aircraft structural integration or cross-functional engineering roles
• Experience working directly with certification authorities (FAA, TCCA, EASA)
• Exposure to both metallic and composite structural analysis
