7 North (7N) is a specialized cardiac telemetry unit focused on the care of patients recovering from cardiovascular surgery, including procedures such as coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG), transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), and various thoracic and vascular surgeries. After patients stabilize in the critical care unit, they are typically transferred to 7N for continued care.

Nurses on 7N are trained to provide expert care for patients with complex cardiac conditions, including those with Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs). They are skilled in managing a variety of critical interventions, such as chest tubes, central lines, and temporary pacemakers, ensuring optimal recovery and patient outcomes.

POSITION PURPOSE

The licensed Registered Nurse (RN) plans & provides professional nursing services & standards of practice in accordance with level of experience & education, state board of nursing & established policies & procedures. The RN integrates the art, science, leadership & knowledge of the nursing clinical practice through relationship-centered, compassionate, ethical & respectful direct / indirect healthcare services.

FUNCTIONAL ROLE

RN III - senior: Practice is guided by nursing process & policy / procedure / standards. Maintains focused area of expertise for care / program & / or provides interventions or knowledge within niche areas of care / program; Advances professional / shared governance, collaborates inter & intra-professionally, delegates to others to advance care, assumes an expanded role & increased responsibility; Able to lead a small team; Serve as a unit / service / program nursing practice mentor & identify learning need of others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing is required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred. Current Iowa RN license, (current IL license if working in IL) required. Basic Life Support (BLS) is required within three (3) months of hire. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required within three (3) months of hire. Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter for both Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training is required within six (6) months of hire. Specialty practice certification is preferred.. Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health and MercyOne.

Must be able to set and organize own work priorities, and adapt to them as they change frequently. Must be able to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in an environment that may be stressful with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles.
