Pay Band: 3 Agency: Department of State Police Location: Chesapeake, Virginia Agency Website: vsp.virginia.gov Recruitment Type: General Public - G Job Duties About the Position: The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Sex Offender Investigative Unit Compliance Officer (SOIU) in Region 5 covering Chesapeake. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to: Supporting statewide public safety initiatives by conducting field-based sex offender verifications and ensuring timely, accurate updates to the Virginia Sex Offender Management System (VSOMS). Ensuring compliance with the Code of Virginia through home, work, and school verifications, SP-236 filings, photo updates and documentation for court and investigative use. Collaborating with Troopers, probation and parole officers, courts, law enforcement agencies, and community partners to advance the mission of the Firearms and Sex Offender Investigative Unit. The probation and parole process. Skill in: Operating a computer to include Microsoft software applications. Data entry. Ability to: Operate a motor vehicle. Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing in English. Make decisions independently by applying policies, rules, and regulations. Work independently, follow instructions, and pay close attention to details. Identify and respond to safety risks in unpredictable environments. Manage evolving workloads and prioritize deadlines. Work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, and weekends. Build professional rapport with offenders, Troopers, supervisors, and external partners. Possession of a valid Virginia Operator's License. Graduation from high school or equivalent. Compliance Officers assigned to the Firearms and Sex Offender Investigative Unit (FSOIU) shall be assigned to a specific region. Compliance Officers shall reside within 45 minutes from any border of their assigned county or city. Additional Considerations Experience or training in law enforcement operational procedures and verbal de-escalation techniques preferred.
