Job Summary
The School of Social Science and Global Studies at TheUniversity of Southern Mississippi invites applications for a full-timenon-tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor of French beginning August 2027;this is a teaching-track position with opportunities for promotion. The Schoolis seeking French generalist candidates who will demonstrate a strongcommitment to undergraduate and graduate education teach a full range ofundergraduate and graduate courses in both the World Languages BA and theMaster of Arts in the Teaching of Languages programs advise and mentorstudents serve on committees and work with graduate teaching assistants toimplement standards-based practices.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Teach four courses per semester fall and spring face-to-face and online as needed.
2. Hold regular office hours.
3. Mentor and advise students in the program.
4. Attend faculty meetings as determined by the Director of the School of Social Science and Global Studies and program meetings as determined by the program coordinators.
5. Engage in professional development and/or scholarly activities appropriate to the mission of the School College and University.
6. Provide service to assist the functioning of the School College and University.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. or Ed.D. with specialization in French second language acquisition teacher education or related field with at least 18 hours of graduate French completed by August 2027.
Native or near-native proficiency in French.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of second language acquisition Spanish language pedagogy and standards-based approaches to language teaching.
• Ability to articulate concepts course content and instructions clearly and effectively to students across undergraduate and graduate levels and in face-to-face and online environments.
• Capacity to build positive respectful and professional relationships with students colleagues graduate teaching assistants and other university personnel.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching and mentoring in a university setting with a diverse student body.
Online teaching and online course design experience.
Graduate level teaching experience.
Interest in leading study abroad programs.
