Head Men's Volleyball Coach

Under the general direction of the Director of Athletics, thefull-time Head Men’s Volleyball Coach will recruit and retainqualified student-athletes for the men’s volleyball program,instruct and develop student-athletes in volleyball and academics,prepare team for matches, fundraise and assist in communityinvolvement. Additionally, the Head Coach will also support themission and goals of Hood College. Essential Duties Work with Director of Athletics on yearly recruiting goals forthe program; Provide instruction on related skill development and critique,rules, technologies and strategies; Adjust gameday strategies in matches as needed; Model and instruct student-athletes in departmental, College,Conference, and NCAA policies and procedures including Hood HonorCode, Alcohol Policy, Code of Conduct, Travel Policy, Conferencebylaws and proceedings, and NCAA guidelines; Organize and conduct practices during the traditional andnon-traditional seasons; Develop team travel and security plans in compliance withdepartmental and College guidelines for safety and otherrequirements; Serve as the representative of the department and the Collegeduring team travel for in- and out-of-season competition. Superviseteam during all travel, lead team during the event; Manage and account for budget. Submit required forms andreports to Director of Athletics and Accounting Department; Develop and implement fund-raising strategies for team; Assure currency with NCAA regulations, Conference bylaws andproceedings, and departmental policies. Participate in NCAA andConference meetings and voting procedures as appropriate; Refer student-athletes to College resources as necessary toassist with academic, medical, and/or personal issues that mayarise throughout the year; Other duties as assigned by Director of Athletics. Conference Events & Services Liaison (15%) Work with the office of Conference Events and Services (CES) oncoordinating athletic rentals and reserving athleticfacilities; Direct interested outside vendors towards the office ofCES; Assist in identifying site supervisors for outsiderentals. The requirements listedbelow are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilityrequired. Education and/or Experience Minimum Requirements/Qualifications Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred. Proven successful coaching, with 2-3 years of experiencepreferred. Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulationspreferred. Valid driver’s license and good driving record. Technology Skills Proficient in MS Office tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, andPowerPoint), e-mail and Internet. Ability to learn new applicationsquickly including organization-wide information systems anddepartment-specific software applications. Language Skills Oral communication skills to enable the incumbent to effectivelypresent information and respond to questions from and buildrelationships with groups of managers, clients, customers, and thegeneral public. Ability to read, analyze and interpret generalbusiness periodicals, professional journals, technical proceduresor government regulations. Ability to write reports, businesscorrespondence and procedures manuals. Mathematical Skills Proficient with statistical and financial concepts. Must have theability to apply those concepts to tracking, projections, goalsetting and interpreting reports. Must be able to draw conclusionsfrom reports and make cost effective decisions regardingprograms. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number ofconcrete variables in situations where only limited standardizationexists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished inwritten, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to workindependently and as a member of a group in developing andexecuting project plans. Ability to work in theoretical arena andapply logic as appropriate. Compensation This is a position with an annual starting salary range of $49,500to $55,000 depending on circumstances including an applicant’sskills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications,prior job experience, training, and other relevant factors. HoodCollege has provided a compensation range representing its goodfaith estimate of what the College may pay for the position at thetime of posting. The College may ultimately pay more or less thanthe posted compensation range.
