Production & Warehouse Manager

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Production & Warehouse Manager to lead approximately 30 employees across production, receiving, inventory, inspection, and shipping.

This is an important floor-management position with direct responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the facility. The successful candidate will ensure that employees are productively engaged, work is properly scheduled and prioritized, products are manufactured and shipped on time, and quality and safety standards are consistently maintained.

Our manufacturing operation is a job-shop environment producing a variety of customized products. Production processes include sewing, automated fabric cutting, silk-screen printing, and embroidery. The position also oversees receiving, finished-goods inventory, picking, inspection, packing, and shipping.

We currently do not have a dedicated manager in this role, so the successful candidate will have the opportunity to establish stronger operating discipline, procedures, accountability, and organization throughout the department.

Primary Responsibilities

Production Management

• Direct the daily activities of approximately 30 production, receiving, inventory, inspection, and shipping employees.
• Develop and communicate the daily production schedule based on customer orders, priorities, available labor, and production capacity.
• Assign employees and resources to the areas where they are most needed.
• Monitor work throughout the day and adjust staffing and priorities when circumstances change.
• Ensure employees remain productively engaged and are working at an appropriate pace.
• Identify production bottlenecks and take corrective action before they affect customer orders.
• Coordinate workflow between cutting, sewing, silk-screen printing, embroidery, inspection, inventory, and shipping.
• Ensure jobs move efficiently through the factory without unnecessary delays or work-in-process accumulation.
• Work closely with other departments to resolve material shortages, production problems, quality concerns, and order priorities.

Employee Supervision

• Provide visible, active leadership on the production floor.
• Establish clear expectations for attendance, productivity, quality, safety, housekeeping, and workplace conduct.
• Hold employees accountable for performance while treating employees consistently and professionally.
• Coach and develop supervisors, leads, and production employees.
• Identify training needs and ensure employees are properly trained before performing assigned work.
• Cross-train employees where practical to provide greater scheduling flexibility.
• Address attendance, performance, and disciplinary issues promptly and consistently.
• Help develop strong employees into future leads and supervisors.
• Create a culture in which employees take responsibility for the quality and productivity of their work.

Quality

• Ensure products meet established workmanship and quality standards before advancing to the next production operation or shipping to the customer.
• Reinforce the principle that quality is the responsibility of everyone involved in production—not only the final inspector.
• Investigate recurring defects and determine their underlying causes.
• Implement corrective actions to reduce rework, scrap, returns, and customer complaints.
• Ensure inspection standards are understood and consistently applied.
• Work with production employees to prevent problems rather than relying solely on final inspection to find them.

Receiving and Inventory

• Oversee the receiving and proper put-away of incoming materials and finished goods.
• Ensure received quantities and materials are accurately identified and recorded.
• Maintain an organized warehouse with clearly defined storage locations.
• Ensure finished goods are accurately picked and moved according to customer and production requirements.
• Maintain inventory discipline and help investigate inventory discrepancies.
• Establish processes that reduce misplaced materials, unnecessary movement, and searching for inventory.

Shipping

• Oversee inspection, packing, and shipment of completed customer orders.
• Ensure orders are shipped accurately, completely, and on schedule.
• Maintain appropriate packing and shipping standards.
• Monitor shipping workload throughout the day to prevent completed orders from missing carrier pickup deadlines.
• Investigate shipping errors and implement corrective actions.

Safety and Housekeeping

• Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly manufacturing and warehouse environment.
• Ensure employees follow established safety practices and properly use required personal protective equipment.
• Correct unsafe conditions and unsafe behavior immediately.
• Conduct or coordinate regular safety training and meetings.
• Ensure aisles, workstations, production equipment, and storage areas remain clean and organized.
• Promote a workplace culture where safety is part of normal operating discipline.

Continuous Improvement

• Look continuously for practical ways to improve productivity, quality, workflow, material handling, and workplace organization.
• Establish simple, measurable operating standards where standards do not currently exist.
• Use production data and direct observation to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Reduce unnecessary movement, waiting, rework, excessive work-in-process, and other sources of waste.
• Help introduce greater structure and discipline without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.

Qualifications

• Prior experience managing employees in a manufacturing, production, warehouse, or similar operating environment.
• Demonstrated ability to directly supervise a workforce and hold employees accountable for productivity and quality.
• Strong production scheduling and prioritization skills.
• Comfortable spending the majority of the workday on the production floor rather than managing primarily from an office.
• Ability to understand multiple production processes and coordinate work between departments.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to recognize operational problems quickly and take practical corrective action.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with sewing, textile manufacturing, cutting, embroidery, printing, light manufacturing, or job-shop production is helpful but not required.
• Experience overseeing warehouse, receiving, inventory, or shipping operations is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with ERP, inventory, or production-management systems is helpful.
• Spanish-language ability is helpful but not required.
