Overview: Senior Software Engineer New York, NY - Hybrid - 3 Days Onsite and 2 Days Offsite About The Role: As a Senior Software Engineer, you will take a leading role in designing and building scalable, high-quality software solutions. You'll guide technical discussions, perform in-depth code reviews, and mentor junior engineers to cultivate a culture of continuous learning and growth. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you'll help deliver reliable software, solve complex technical challenges, and drive innovation by integrating emerging tools and best practices. Your strong technical acumen and clear communication will be key to ensuring successful project execution and ongoing process improvement. What You'll Do:
- Design and implement software applications based on user and business requirements.
- Develop, enhance, and maintain robust, scalable applications.
- Conduct unit testing using JUnit and support system testing, with a focus on expanding automation capabilities.
- Share knowledge and offer support to team members, fostering collaboration and continuous learning.
- Gain a deep understanding of business processes to deliver effective application solutions and support.
- Document system architecture, design decisions, and support procedures using Confluence.
- Track and manage development tasks and issues using JIRA.
- Take full ownership of multiple complex applications, including ongoing production support.
- Lead efforts to modernize the front end by migrating from Java Swing to ReactJS, while redesigning and refactoring backend components.
- Utilize GitLab for version control and Jenkins for continuous integration and deployment.
- Learn and maintain a legacy system with over two decades of development history, ensuring stability while driving modernization and performance improvements.
- At least 7 years of hands-on experience in Java development with a strong foundation in object-oriented programming principles.
- Extensive experience building front-end user interfaces with Java Swing.
- Strong proficiency in database design and SQL, particularly with Oracle.
- Working knowledge of continuous integration tools, preferably Jenkins.
- Comfortable working in Agile development environments.
- Experience leveraging AI-powered development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to enhance productivity.
- Proficient in version control systems, such as GitLab.
- Solid experience with the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Framework, JDBC, Spring REST, Solace messaging, and Protobuf.
- Familiarity with Java WebStart and legacy deployment technologies.
- Background in Fixed Income or related financial systems.
- Strong understanding of AWS services and cloud architecture.
- Experience deploying containerized applications to AWS EKS.
- Familiar with building modern web applications using ReactJS.
