About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Cerner experience preferred Description: The unit has 32 beds, all private. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 for telemetry patients and 1:5 for MedSurg patients. If a mixed team of MedSurg and telemetry patients, the ratio remains 1:4. The telemetry unit requires BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications. Common diagnoses include acute and chronic medical conditions, cardiac telemetry patients, stroke patients, forensic patients, and post-operative patients. Registered Nurses must be able to read and interpret all cardiac rhythms using GE monitors. Nurses are not required to titrate any drips; common set rate drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Heparin. There are no vents in the unit, but Cpap or Bipap may be used per RT and MD orders. Shifts are 12 hours with every shift huddle at designated times. Weekend requirements include 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule, typically on Friday/Saturday for nights and Saturday/Sunday for days. Holidays require one major and one minor holiday shift minimum. There is no call, but staff may be placed on standby during low census, with a 30-minute response time if called in. Traveling staff will be the first to float, potentially to any MedSurg or ICU unit as necessary. The dress code is navy blue scrubs; undershirts and jackets must also comply with color requirements. Staff must uphold evidence-based practices, including bedside shift reports and medication teaching. This is a fast-paced unit with high acuity, dealing with many admissions. Attendance is strictly monitored; being late is not tolerated.
