Endoscopy Technician

Job Summary Provides support to physicians and nurses as part of the endoscopic procedural team. Performs direct and indirect tasks that contribute to quality care for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures. Responsible for setting up, troubleshooting, and assisting with endoscopic accessories and equipment, pre‑cleaning accessories, transcribing patient information into the electronic medical record, assisting with patient transports and endoscope reprocessing, and supporting operational functions in the Medical Procedures Center. Responsibilities Take vital signs, measure patient weights, and document these in the EMR. Transcribe patients’ medical and surgery history, medications, and allergies in the EMR. Assist patients in preparing for procedure as needed. Make beds, clean rooms, and serve as runners for equipment during procedure. Transport patients via wheelchair and stretcher. Properly position patients pre‑and intra‑procedure. Select correct procedure endoscope and perform QC check pre‑procedure. Enter patient and procedure information into endoscopy report writing software pre‑procedure. Handle and manage procedure accessory equipment, including control of the handle end of endoscopic biopsy forceps, polyp snares, endoscopic clips, and retrieval nets/graspers. Provide airway support via head positioning and oropharyngeal suctioning. Perform detailed procedure specimen management. Immediately post‑procedure, perform endoscope pre‑cleaning. Know the set up for numerous technical procedures and related equipment and accessories, including band ligation, liver biopsy, percutaneous gastrostomy tube placement, and other less common procedures. Troubleshoot problems with endoscopes and support equipment including suction machines, CO₂ pumps, and water pumps. Perform high‑level disinfection for endoscope and accessory reprocessing. Provide on‑call coverage for Saturday clinic cases. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Graduation from a Medical Assistant program or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Recent experience in an outpatient setting. Desired Qualifications Excellent communication skills. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Demonstrated excellent customer service skills. High School Diploma. One‑year Medical Assistant experience. Medical Assistant Certification. Endoscopy unit experience. SGNA Gastrointestinal Technical Specialist (GTS).
