Maintenance Technician I

POSITION PURPOSE: This role accelerates business value by operations lead and apprentice level maintenance person with advanced maintenance responsibilities for the reliable operation and maintenance of the plant’s manufacturing, processing systems and physical property. Included activities are operating equipment, completing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting equipment, identification and usage of proper tooling, and completing small physical property repairs. Leads, collaborates and demonstrates the lean principles and utilizes the lean methodologies and tools to facilitate continuous process improvements and value creation for our customers, employees and shareholders. Actively utilizes lean tools (VSM, Kaizen, A3, etc.) to inform and assess business opportunities to drive continuous improvement. Lead and participate in Kaizen and value stream mapping activities. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Monitor all equipment on a daily basis. Operate processing machinery and repair equipment as necessary. Conduct preventive maintenance on production equipment; troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning equipment. Apply basic understanding of blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation for proper maintenance of manufacturing and facility equipment. Ensure that manufacturing equipment is functional and supplies are ready. Test production quality by visually inspecting ice for clarity, cube size, and hole space. Apply basic Root Cause Analysis and implement countermeasures. Perform minor facility and building grounds maintenance including changing lightbulbs, painting, and minor plant structural repairs. Identify and use tools and equipment to conduct general facility maintenance. Assist with bagging product and occasionally direct production workflow based on equipment output. Facilitate basic data analysis for Root Cause Identification. Identify opportunities for continuous process improvement and bring them to the Operations Manager’s attention. Complete safety checklists as required by the Safety/Risk Management Department. Identify, monitor and correct industrial health and safety issues. Assume additional duties and responsibilities assigned by management. Adhere to the Code of Business Ethics; demonstrate honesty and integrity. Maintain high safety standards; safety is personal for all employees. This position may assist with directing production workflow but is an individual contributor with no direct reports. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Required: 2-4 years of work experience in an industrial maintenance operation. Preferred: 4+ years of work experience in an industrial maintenance operation. High school diploma or GED. Completion of one of the following certifications: Programmable Logic Controller Certification – Electronics Technicians Association International Journeyman Certification/License in Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical Disciplines – State Certifying Authority Certified Assistant Refrigeration Operator – Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association Certified Maintenance Technician Level III – International Maintenance Institute Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician – Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work can occur in normal office conditions or all areas inside and outside the plant. Exposure to extreme temperature fluctuations, electrical hazards, ammonia and heavy moving equipment. The job requires working nights and weekends with occasional travel. Overtime may be required. Work is conducted in a fast‑paced, rapidly changing environment. Must be able to manage stress, build professional and collaborative relationships, and reason through complex business situations.
