Job Description

Job Title: Wastewater Treatment System Operator

Pay Rate: $30-35/hour

Job Description

This role operates and monitors a temporary wastewater treatment system at an industrial facility in Pueblo, Colorado. You will manage a highly hands-on, manual treatment process using frac tanks, pumps, and filtration equipment to ensure safe and efficient handling of wastewater. The position requires independent work on site with remote support, strong mechanical aptitude, and the physical ability to perform outdoor field operations in a dynamic industrial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor a temporary wastewater treatment system at an industrial facility in Pueblo, Colorado.
  • Walk the site daily to inspect equipment, verify proper operation, and ensure there are no leaks or unsafe conditions.
  • Check frac tank levels regularly to confirm adequate storage capacity and prevent overflows.
  • Start, control, and manage the process of moving water through the treatment system using pumps and associated equipment.
  • Monitor and record pressure readings and totalizer readings throughout the day to track system performance.
  • Change bag filters when pressures are high or flow is restricted to maintain efficient system operation.
  • Document daily notes on pressures, totalizers, operational observations, and overall system performance.
  • Interface professionally with drivers bringing water into and taking water out of the facility, providing direction and coordinating safe transfers.
  • Perform duties related to removing oil from tanks and associated equipment as needed.
  • Work independently on site after training, coordinating as needed with the remote back office support team.
  • Follow safety procedures, including use of provided tools and personal protective equipment, and support a safe work environment.
  • Support startup and shakedown activities during initial system commissioning and training.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience operating wastewater treatment systems or similar industrial equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with frac tanks, pumps, and manual wastewater treatment processes.
  • Industrial mechanical experience, including work involving electrical components, pump rebuilding, or general mechanical repair.
  • Ability to walk the site extensively, lift hoses, climb ladders to check tank levels, and change bag filters safely.
  • Capability to perform physically demanding manual outdoor work.
  • Ability to work alone on site with only remote back office support, demonstrating strong self-reliance and judgment.
  • Comfort working in a very hands-on, non-desk, field-based environment.
  • Ability to speak English clearly to communicate with drivers, support teams, and other site personnel.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Class D wastewater license in Colorado (not required but a major plus).
  • OSHA 10 certification (can be obtained with paid time prior to going on site if not already held).
  • Forklift experience (nice to have but not required).
  • Experience in groundwater remediation or construction dewatering on contaminated sites.
  • Experience working in industrial or environmental field operations.
  • Comfort using basic hand tools and troubleshooting mechanical or electrical issues.
  • Willingness to participate in training during system startup and shakedown.

Why Work Here?

You will join a project that plays a key role in bridging the gap until a permanent wastewater treatment system is built, giving you the chance to make a visible impact from day one. The role offers structured training during startup and shakedown, ensuring you are fully supported as you learn the system. There is potential for long-term opportunity, including the possibility of being hired full-time by the facility operator based on strong performance. Safety and professional development are prioritized, with OSHA 10 training provided on paid time if you do not already hold it. You will receive the tools and personal protective equipment needed to perform your work, creating a well-supported, safety-focused environment where experienced field operators can thrive.

Work Environment

This position is based in an outdoor industrial work environment at a facility in Pueblo, Colorado, located approximately 810 minutes outside downtown. The work is highly hands-on and manual, focused on operating and maintaining field equipment rather than sitting behind a desk or monitoring screens. The treatment system occupies a footprint of roughly 40 feet by 120 feet and includes frac tanks, pumps, and filtration equipment. After an initial training period, you will work alone on site for most of the project with remote support available as needed. The schedule is first shift, with flexibility to start around 6:00 AM or 7:00 AM, Monday through Saturday, for 8-hour shifts totaling approximately 48 hours per week. Weekend work is required because the system operates continuously, although it is designed to run during first shift only. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, and the role requires consistent use of tools and personal protective equipment. Tools and PPE are provided, except for steel-toed boots, which you will need to supply as part of the required dress code for safe field operations.
