Full-Time, Staff Counselor -12-Month (3 Positions) Apply now Job no: 548844 Work type: Non-Instructional Faculty (Coach/Counselor/Librarian) Location: Long Beach Categories: Unit 3 - CFA - California Faculty Association, Temporary, Full Time, Counselor (Non-instructional Faculty) Under the supervision of the Director, the Counselor’s primary responsibilities include providing counseling services to CSULB students on campus. This role is pivotal in ensuring the delivery of high‑quality counseling services with a holistic, collaborative, and integrated approach to CSULB students out of Student Health Services. The position also adheres to CSU Executive Order 1053 that defines the role of a counselor and their duties. Required Qualifications Master’s degree in a related mental health field or Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA accredited program Licensed (Psychologist, LCSW, LPCC, or LMFT) in the state of California Demonstrated ability to provide strengths‑based trauma‑informed psychological services (clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and brief psychotherapy) for personal, interpersonal, multicultural, developmental, educational, career, and mental health disorder concerns Experience providing crisis intervention and triage work in a fast‑paced setting Demonstrated commitment and/or expertise in working with a diverse population Ability to work as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues, on/off campus partners, and coordinate with others Positive and respectful attitude Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and communicate clearly and effectively with students, staff, peers, administrators, campus and university personnel, clients, state officials, vendors, professionals, and management Licensing Requirements for Mental Health Clinicians Maintaining licensure status; those joining post‑July 1, 2011 must be licensed in California at the time of employment or obtain licensure within 24 months of starting. Individuals licensed in another state must secure California licensure within one year. Unlicensed applicants may provide care during the interim period of obtaining a license, subject to routine licensure status checks and disciplinary actions per state licensing requirements. Preferred Qualifications Commitment and expertise in working with diverse student populations Outreach and consultation experience with students and stakeholders Experience with Black, Latinx, Native American, Asian/Asian American, LGBTQ, international, or first‑generation college students Experience with a time‑limited model of care Knowledge of electronic medical record systems (Titanium) that employ electronic record keeping, scheduling, and data collection Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills Demonstrated effectiveness as part of a professional team Experience in group therapy, crisis intervention and management, electronic health record system, and teletherapy Duties Conduct clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and brief psychotherapy for a diverse university student population, including outreach and consultation to campus stakeholders. Provide consultative services regarding student mental health issues to faculty, staff, parents, spouses, friends, and other agents within professional, legal, and ethical boundaries. Allocate 60%–65% of base time to direct services, including individual/group counseling, intakes, assessment, crisis intervention, and other clinical services. Supervise interns as needed, in accordance with licensure regulations. Perform additional tasks as directed by the CAPS Director or the Student Affairs Leadership Team to meet dynamic departmental needs.
