Adult Psychiatrist-- EmPath, Emergency Department, and Consultation/Liaison Services

Loma Linda University Faculty Medical Group

Job Description

Job Description

Overview: Our organization is on the lookout for a board-certified or board-eligible psychiatrist to become a part of our expanding behavioral health team. This unique and fulfilling position is within our Crisis Stabilization/EMPATH Unit, a 12-bed, dynamic program aimed at delivering immediate and compassionate psychiatric care to individuals in crisis.

An EmPATH unit is a dedicated, tranquil area within a hospital that focuses on providing swift mental health evaluations and treatments for those facing a crisis. Unlike a conventional emergency room, it emphasizes a calming atmosphere that alleviates anxiety and fosters healing.

This role presents a significant chance to assist a diverse and underserved community in the Inland Empire region, all while collaborating in a multidisciplinary setting at one of Southern California’s premier academic medical centers and a Level I Trauma Center.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver direct psychiatric care to patients within the Crisis Stabilization/EMPATH Unit.
  • Engage in collaborative care alongside Emergency Department teams, medical and surgical specialties, and social services.
  • Participate in consultation-liaison psychiatry as required, including floor consultations.
  • Supervise and mentor psychiatry residents, medical students, and other trainees.
  • Work with a team of nurse practitioners, social workers, case managers, and peer support specialists to ensure smooth transitions of care.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, innovation, and the establishment of best practices in emergency psychiatric care.
  • There is also the potential for a Medical Directorship role, contingent on experience and interest. This leadership position would involve overseeing clinical operations of the unit, supporting quality improvement efforts, and influencing the development of emergent psychiatric services.
What We Offer:
  • Academic appointment and teaching opportunities through our affiliated medical school.
  • A nurturing and mission-focused environment that prioritizes holistic care.
  • Access to an extensive network of specialists across various disciplines at a leading faith-based academic medical center.
  • Opportunities for leadership development and program expansion.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
About the Area:

Loma Linda is recognized as the only Blue Zone in the United States, offering a family-friendly atmosphere with a strong community spirit and a commitment to health and wellness. Located in Southern California between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, in the Inland Empire region, it is nestled at the base of the San Bernardino mountains, providing easy access to beaches, skiing, hiking, and a variety of outdoor activities. This growing area boasts a low cost of living and excellent public and private school systems. Faculty members may also qualify for federal student loan forgiveness programs.

Compensation & Benefits:

The starting base compensation range is $250,000 to $321,000, adjusted based on years of experience and/or faculty rank. This figure does not include variable compensation or additional productivity incentives and is subject to the specific compensation plans of the department. Further details regarding compensation will be discussed during the recruitment process.

Our benefits package includes:

  • Generous retirement contributions.
  • Comprehensive medical and dental coverage.
  • Competitive vacation and sick leave.
  • Continuing Medical Education (CME) days and funding.
  • Relocation assistance (if applicable).
  • Paid malpractice insurance.
  • Paid life insurance.
  • Federal loan repayment options (if eligible).

Note: A California residency is required upon the start date. This position is not eligible for a Conrad 30 Waiver.
