Summary

AllClear Aerospace & Defense is seeking a Senior Accountant to play a key role in the monthly close process, drive process improvement across the accounting function, and help ensure the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial records. This role offers significant opportunity to own multiple areas of the trial balance, mentor junior staff, and gain exposure to the broader financial operations of an aerospace and defense company, including government contract accounting fundamentals, compliance, and audit support.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the monthly close process across multiple entities and trial balance accounts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of journal entries and account reconciliations.

Support multi-entity consolidation activities, including intercompany transactions and eliminations, ensuring consistency of accounting treatment across entities.

Prepare and/or review account reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.

Partner with the accounting team to re-think and redesign processes, identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency in transaction processing and month-end close.

Review vendor invoices for proper coding and classification in the general ledger, ensuring consistency with chart of accounts and internal policies.

Own the preparation and management of the company's compliance filings, including sales tax and property tax filings, ensuring accuracy and on-time submission.

Mentor, train, and provide guidance to junior accounting staff on close processes, reconciliation techniques, and best practices.

Support the annual financial statement audit process, including preparation of schedules, responses to auditor requests (PBC lists), and coordination with external auditors.

Assist with the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reporting packages.

Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting, including documentation of accounting policies and procedures.

Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis activities as needed.

Assist with special projects, including system implementations, ERP upgrades, and process documentation.

Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements; stay current on relevant accounting standards updates.

Collaborate cross-functionally with Contracts, Program Management, Procurement, and FP&A to support accurate and timely financial reporting.

Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in handling sensitive financial and business information, consistent with company policy and applicable regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.

5+ years of progressive general ledger / accounting experience, including hands-on account reconciliation work as part of a monthly close cycle.

Demonstrated success in evaluating and improving accounting processes, whether through automation, systems, or workflow redesign.

Strong desire and aptitude to learn and take ownership of multiple accounts across the trial balance.

Demonstrated ability to mentor, train, or otherwise develop junior accounting staff.

Experience assisting with or supporting a financial statement audit (interim or year-end).

Strong working knowledge of GAAP and general ledger systems/ERP platforms.

Advanced proficiency in Excel; comfort working with large data sets.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines across entities.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain accounting concepts to non-accounting stakeholders.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Qualifications

Experience in the aerospace and defense industry, particularly with government contracting environments.

Prior experience with a regional or national public accounting firm.

CPA license or active pursuit of CPA designation.

Familiarity with government contract cost accounting principles (e.g., FAR/DFARS, CAS) is a plus.

Experience with Quantum (Component Control) ERP or a similar system commonly used in aerospace/defense (e.g., Deltek Costpoint, SAP, or similar).

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to sit 6 to 8 hours a day. Must be able to work with their hands, arms and be extremely accurate. Must be able to walk, sit, or stand on a regular basis. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.

Customary physical demands for an office environment.

While performing the duties of this job in the production area, the employee may be regularly exposed to moving high-speed machinery and mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to machine oils, metal fillings, acetone, paints, solvents, grease, cutting fluids, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock or vibration when on the production floor. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud when on the production floor.
