Histology Technician: Precision Tissue Lab Specialist

Position Purpose The Histotechnician/HTL's main responsibility is to perform all functions in the histology lab, including embedding, microtomy, staining, and filing. Provide backup for Lab Assistant duties Gross, embed, cut, and stain tissue according to designated procedures Perform all routine and specialized histology tissue slide preparation and staining procedures Complete assigned workload within prescribed time limits Prepare reagents for tissue processing and routine slide staining Maintain legible, accurate complete logs and record of testing Distribute slides to pathologists Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment Troubleshoot procedures and instrumentation Ensure all corporate safety, quality control, and quality assurance standards are met Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA, and CAP regulations Maintain a clean and well-organized work area Other duties as assigned Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent required Associate’s degree in science or equivalent science education required for Histology Technicians performing gross examination of specimens and other high complexity testing. Education and training sufficient to support CLIA 88 requirements for the position held. This reflects the scope of practice in scheduled responsibilities and pay grade meeting all HCFA-CLIA 88 “testing personnel” criteria. Experience: One (1) year experience in laboratory setting preferred. Also, laboratory equipment is used daily. Work Environment This job operates in professional laboratory environments. Frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals, moving/mechanical parts, sharp objects, blood or body fluids, communicable diseases, computer monitors, repetitive motions.
