• Evening Shift: 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM | Eligible for Shift Differential

Starting Pay: $19.80 per hour

Overview

The Behavioral Wellness Center at Girard is a leading provider of behavioral health and substance use disorder services in Philadelphia. We deliver trauma informed, evidence based care in a culturally responsive environment through inpatient, outpatient, and addiction recovery programs.

We are seeking a dependable and professional Behavioral Health Intake Worker to join our Behavioral Intake Unit. This position supports the intake and admissions process by coordinating referrals, gathering patient information, completing required documentation, communicating with clinical staff and referral sources, and assisting individuals entering behavioral health and substance use treatment services.

We welcome candidates with experience in behavioral health, mental health, human services, healthcare admissions, patient access, intake coordination, case management, patient registration, residential services, recovery services, or direct care.

We are also open to entry level candidates with an associate or bachelor’s degree who are looking to begin or grow their career in behavioral health, human services, social services, or healthcare. Relevant education may include Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Behavioral Health, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.

Experience in roles such as Mental Health Technician, Behavioral Health Technician, Patient Access Representative, Admissions Representative, Intake Coordinator, Case Management Assistant, Human Services Worker, Residential Counselor, Recovery Support Specialist, Direct Support Professional, Patient Registration Representative, or similar positions may translate well to this opportunity.

A valid driver's license is required, and this position may occasionally assist with transportation related needs. Driving is not the primary function of this role. The primary focus is behavioral health intake, admissions, referral coordination, documentation, and patient access.

Important: All new hires must be able to attend a mandatory 5-day orientation Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM before starting their regular schedule. Attendance is required for employment.

Responsibilities

• Greet and register incoming patients and referrals in a professional and timely manner

• Collect, verify, and enter patient demographic, insurance, and clinical information

• Coordinate admissions and patient placements with physicians, nurses, clinical staff, and referral sources

• Obtain required patient consents and maintain accurate documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)

• Assist with intake screenings and admission processes as assigned

• Communicate with hospitals, treatment providers, community agencies, and other referral sources regarding admissions and placement

• Support patient access activities and help facilitate an organized transition into behavioral health and substance use treatment services

• Maintain accurate intake, referral, and admissions documentation

• Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies

• Provide transportation for patients, staff, or laboratory specimens when needed as part of departmental operations

• Operate organizational vehicles safely and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly

• Support the overall day to day operations of the Behavioral Intake Unit

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Candidates may qualify through relevant education, experience, or a combination of both.

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Behavioral Health, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred

• Recent graduates and candidates seeking to enter the behavioral health or human services field are encouraged to apply

• Candidates without a related degree should have relevant experience in behavioral health, mental health, human services, healthcare admissions, intake, patient access, patient registration, case management, direct care, residential services, or a related setting

• Experience with intake coordination, referral processing, admissions, patient registration, behavioral health, or substance use treatment is preferred

• Bilingual English and Spanish preferred but not required

License & Driving Requirements

• Valid driver's license required

• Clean driving record for the past 3 years required

• No DUI convictions within the past 5 years

• Current automobile insurance required

• Ability to successfully complete a driving assessment if required

• Ability to interact professionally and compassionately with individuals entering behavioral health or substance use treatment

• Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities

• Ability to learn intake, admissions, referral, and patient access processes

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn Electronic Health Record systems

• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, clinical staff, referral sources, and community providers

• Ability to work independently and professionally in a fast paced behavioral healthcare environment

• Knowledge of HIPAA, insurance verification, admissions processes, or intake documentation standards preferred

• Frequent interaction with patients, referral sources, clinical staff, and healthcare professionals

• Primarily focused on behavioral health intake, admissions, referral coordination, and patient access responsibilities

• Occasional transportation responsibilities based on departmental needs
