This is a first-shift brazing position within a modern manufacturing environment. You will join metal components using torch and induction brazing techniques to produce high-quality, leak-proof assemblies. Working at a dedicated ergonomic work station, you will assemble materials according to blueprints and work instructions, then braze copper-to-copper, copper-to-brass, and copper-to-steel components across a range of sizes using a mobile torch cart. You will perform visual inspections to verify solid braze joints and support consistent, high-quality production output.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble materials according to prints and work instructions after receiving prepared kits from the material prep area.
  • Perform torch and induction brazing on copper-to-copper, copper-to-brass, and copper-to-steel components, ranging from 1/4 inch to large-diameter copper.
  • Operate a mobile torch cart using propylene, oxygen, and nitrogen in a safe and controlled manner.
  • Conduct thorough visual inspections of braze joints to ensure they are solid, leak-proof, and meet quality standards.
  • Follow structured classroom and hands-on DOJO training to master brazing techniques and the five stages of flux.
  • Apply strong mechanical aptitude to set up, adjust, and maintain brazing equipment and workstations as needed.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and work instructions to ensure accurate assembly and brazing processes.
  • Collaborate with coaches and braze auditors during process audits and joint inspections, responding to feedback to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Support production goals by maintaining consistent output while adhering to safety, quality, and process requirements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities related to brazing methods, material handling, and visual inspection practices.
Essential Skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools and manufacturing equipment.
  • Previous experience in brazing or a strong desire and willingness to learn brazing techniques.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions accurately.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints for material assembly and brazing.
  • Skill in torch brazing, including copper-to-copper, copper-to-brass, and copper-to-steel joints.
  • Competence in visual inspection to evaluate the quality and integrity of braze joints.
  • Basic understanding of welding and soldering techniques and their relationship to brazing.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, leak-proof assemblies.
  • Ability to work effectively in a production environment and meet output expectations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with material assembly in a manufacturing or production setting.
  • Familiarity with welding techniques and mechanical processes.
  • Comfort working with gases such as propylene, oxygen, and nitrogen in a torch-based environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a brand-new manufacturing facility where air quality in the brazing department is regularly tested and maintained to meet or exceed required standards. You will use a mobile torch cart with propylene, oxygen, and nitrogen, and work with copper, brass, and steel components of varying diameters. The environment includes structured DOJO training that combines classroom instruction with hands-on practice, ensuring you master copper-to-copper, copper-to-brass, and copper-to-steel torch techniques and understand the five stages of flux. Dedicated braze auditors and coaches are present on shifts to run process audits, inspect joints, and track nonconforming material, creating a supportive, quality-focused atmosphere with clear processes and ongoing guidance.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.50 - $20.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
