Operations & Maintenance Technician

Base Pay $42.00 - $60.00 / Hour Employee Type Full Time Non-Exempt The Operations and Maintenance Technician is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all Plant equipment under their control in accordance with written plant procedures and under the direction of the Lead Operations and Maintenance Technician. In the absence of specific orders and/or directives, the Operator exercises initiative, using experience and good judgment in Plant operation. Comply with plant policies including those concerning safety and environmental. St. Charles is a 745 MW, 2x1 combined cycle facility featuring GE 7FA.05 gas turbines and a D11 steam turbine, utilizing reclaimed water for cooling and supplying power to the PJM market via PEPCO. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Oversee the safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound operation of plant equipment Properly operate Control Room, combustion turbines and plant auxiliary equipment during normal and emergency operation Troubleshoot plant equipment to resolve operational problems Operate various computer systems to receive, analyze, comprehend, and input data Monitor and record data available using various instruments, recording charts, annunciator systems and other monitoring devices onto shift logs as directed by plant operational procedures Implement Plant Emergency Procedures as needed Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings Communicate conditions of plant system and equipment to others Apply knowledge of gas power plant operations and basic power plant principles to daily decision-making and work tasks Discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals from control panel Work without supervision inspection while carrying out duties Take, record, and analyze readings of various electrical and mechanical meters Training of operators in their qualifications Ensure shift operations and maintenance PMs are performed Knowledge of and ability to operate various switches and valves and the effect each has on the total operation Meet physical requirements of the job, performing tasks while standing, walking, climbing, and squatting Performance of duties requires working rotating shifts and response to calls 24 hours/day, seven days/week. Other duties as assigned. Requirements 3-5+ years of relevant experience in power plants or equivalent military experience. Competent oral and written communication skills are required. Knowledge of computer systems and software, and the ability to read technical manuals and drawings. Demonstrates full knowledge and proficiency in the operation and maintenance of a combined-cycle combustion turbine generating station, including balance-of-plant equipment. Demonstrated supervisory skills. Work overtime and non-standard working hours as required. Requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.). Requires operation of a personal computer. Ability to lift 40–75 lbs. and work in physically demanding conditions. Other Desirable Skills Excellent communication and decision-making abilities. Strong planning, organizational, and multitasking skills. Proven ability to adapt to changing priorities and schedules. Proficient in Microsoft Office and CMMS software. Commitment to teamwork and exceptional customer service.
