The teacher will provide academic instruction and social-emotional support to high school students in collaboration with clinicians. Classrooms have fewer than ten students, and teachers have one-to-one instructional time with students weekly. Students have a wide range of learning abilities. Mentorship and coaching are available from clinicians and academic administrators. Expectations: Plan and implement high-quality, engaging social studies lessons and laboratories differentiated to meet learning needs Regularly assess students and the curriculum; communicate assessment results to parents Subscribe to and implement the school’s progressive and personalized education philosophy for twice-exceptional children Collaborate with psychosocial teachers to plan an integrated program for executive functioning within the academic curriculum Map and evaluate curriculum Collaborate with social studies department for a vertically aligned K-12 program Develop and teach electives Maintain an orderly and aesthetic learning environment addressing social, emotional, and executive functioning needs Maintain accurate records in Veracross and portfolios to illustrate progress Empower students with scaffolding, materials, and high expectations Collaborate with academic and psychosocial staff to plan cross-curricular, inquiry-based projects Provide feedback to parents through conferences, reports, calls, and emails Follow school policies and promote the mission Utilize Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets) Attend all faculty meetings and required events Perform other duties as assigned Competencies Love for working with children Strong knowledge of social studies Desire and ability to work with students with special needs Lesson planning and differentiated instruction Effective oral and written communication Understanding of high school students’ academic, social, and emotional development Attention to detail; confidentiality and privacy Ethical conduct; time management; teamwork Patience and flexibility Education and Experience Required: Bachelor’s degree in social studies education, special education, history, government, economics, or related field Minimum of one year paid experience teaching middle and/or high school students Preferred: At least three years experience as a full-time high school social studies teacher Experience teaching AP social studies classes Master’s degree in related field Special education training, including gifted and twice-exceptional education Secondary Social Studies and/or Special Education teaching credential Experience teaching twice-exceptional youth Work Environment & Physical Demands This job operates in a school setting, located on the fifth and sixth floors of a building with an elevator. The role may require travel to the Lower School campus two blocks away. Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to talk and listen; active with standing, walking, and stairs. May lift/move items under 20 pounds. Typing is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities. Position Details Position Type and Hours: Full-time exempt. Ten months per year (late August to late June). Typically Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:00 pm. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required. Compensation and Benefits: $70,000-$89,000 depending on experience and degree.
