Reports To: Building Principal
Goshen High School is seeking a dynamic, passionate, and student-centered English Language Arts Teacher for grades 9-12. The ideal candidate will possess a deep knowledge of literary and compositional content, a strong understanding of Ohio's learning standards, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive, high-achieving classroom environment. We are looking for an educator who connects content to real-world experiences, utilizes data to drive differentiated instruction, and collaborates effectively with families and the school community to support the whole child.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
1. Instructional Design & Classroom Delivery
- Standards-Based Planning: Align instructional goals, activities, and lesson plans with district priorities and Ohio's Academic Content Standards for English Language Arts.
- Diverse Pedagogical Strategies: Use content-specific instructional strategies to teach central concepts, fostering independent learning, critical thinking, and complex problem-solving.
- Real-World Connections: Connect literary and communication skills to relevant life experiences, cross-curricular concepts, and future career opportunities.
- Technology Integration: Leverage modern educational technology and resources effectively to enhance and innovate student learning.
2. Assessment, Data, & Differentiation
- Targeted Assessment: Select, develop, and implement a variety of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to monitor student growth.
- Data-Driven Instruction: Analyze assessment data to measure progress, close the achievement gap, and purposefully modify instruction.
- Individualized Support: Differentiate instruction to meet the unique needs of all learners, including gifted students, students with disabilities (IEPs/504s), and at-risk students.
- Student Empowerment: Involve learners in self-assessment and goal-setting to bridge the gap between their current performance and full potential.
3. Learning Environment & Culture
- Safe & Inclusive Climate: Maintain a classroom environment that is physically and emotionally safe, respectful, supportive, and caring for all students.
- Cultural Responsiveness: Model deep respect for students' diverse cultures, language skills, backgrounds, and personal experiences.
- Student Motivation: Set high expectations for all students, motivating them to work productively and take ownership of their own learning.
4. Collaboration & Professionalism
- Community Partnership: Share responsibility with parents and caregivers to support student learning, emotional growth, and mental health.
- Team Collaboration: Partner effectively with colleagues, administrators, district staff, and local community agencies to promote a positive school culture.
- Professional Ethics: Uphold and follow professional ethics, policies, and legal codes of professional conduct.
- Continuous Growth: Engage in purposeful professional development and act as an agent of change to improve teaching quality and student achievement.
5. Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend all required staff meetings and professional development days per the negotiated agreement.
- Identify and refer students suspected of learning gaps or disabilities to the Response-to-Intervention (RTI) Team.
- Maintain and update valid state teaching licensure applicable to the current assignment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or designee.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of secondary English/Language Arts curriculum and teaching methodologies.
- Strong understanding of adolescent development and age-appropriate behavioral and academic expectations.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including active listening.
- Exceptional organizational, collaborative, and problem-solving abilities within a team environment.
- Proficiency in educational technology, word processing, and district data systems.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Licensure: Valid and appropriate State of Ohio teaching license/certification for Integrated Language Arts (Grades 7-12).
- Experience: Prior high school teaching experience is highly preferable.
- Background Check: Clean Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCII) and FBI fingerprint report.
- Alternative qualifications may be considered as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education find appropriate.
